Book Launch and Study

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work and the Centre for Public Safety and Justice of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, will present launch the book and study, “Deported Volume 1: Entry and Exit Findings Jamaicans Returned Home from the U. S. between 1997 and 2003” on Thursday, December 1, at 7:00 pm in the Multi-Functional Room of the University’s Main Library.

Graduation Photographs/Video Tapes and DVD

The photographs taken at the 2005 Graduation ceremonies are now available and may be collected at the Public Relations Office during working hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Mondays – Fridays).
UWI Graduates, who are interested in video tapes or DVD of the 2005 Graduation Ceremonies, may contact the Public Relations Office at Tel. 977-5941/935-8348/935-8692. The cost is $1200 per tape and $2400 per DVD, for the particular day you graduated.

ILO Nobel Peace Prize Social Policy Lectures

The University of the West Indies and the International Institute of Labour Studies present the ILO Nobel Peace Prize Social Policy Lectures at the Mona School of Business Executive Lecture Theatre from Monday, December 5 to Wednesday, December 7. The topic will be ‘The New Off-shoring of Jobs and Global Development’. The ILO Social Policy Lectures are held every second year in a major university of the world.

Implementing E-Learning

“Implementing E-Learning” is the focus of the 2005 annual workshop being hosted by the Jamaican Association for Distance and Open Learning, JADOL, on Thursday, December 1 at the Terra Nova Hotel. Topics to be covered include ‘Demystifying the On-line Learning Environment (OLE), Are You Ready?’ and ‘Exploring OLE’.

LACC

The Latin American-Caribbean Centre (UWI), in association with the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation, invites the public to attend the screening of the Venezuelan film "PUNTO Y RAYA" in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI, Mona on Friday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles (PG13). Admission is free. Wine will be served before the movie.

Security Tips

Campus Security Services is reminding motorists not to leave their valuables such as handbags, books, parcels, in plain sight inside their locked vehicles. Valuable items may be secured in the trunk of the vehicle but motorists are advised that where possible, this should be done prior to parking on the Campus.

Teaching Skills Workshop

The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) invites members of the academic and senior administrative staff to its annual 3-day Teaching Skills Workshop to be held Tuesday, January 10 – Thursday, January 12, 2006.

Training Workshop for Energy Coordinators

As part of its efforts to conserve energy, the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus will mount a training workshop for Energy Coordinators on Tuesday, November 29, at the Multifunctional Room at the Main Library beginning at 9.00 a.m. The persons selected will participate in a programme of training that will equip them with the capability to recognize inefficient energy consumption practices in the use of electricity and water.

2005 Lorrell Bruce Scholarship

A second year student at the UWI Mona Campus, Monique Brown has been awarded the 2005 Lorrell Bruce Scholarship, offered by the Jamaica Cooperative Credit Union League Ltd. She is the fourth student to receive the scholarship which is valued at $200,000 and will cover the cost of her tuition and books. Miss Brown is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Studies and was recognized as the winner at a function held at Eden Gardens. The Lorrell Bruce Scholarship commemorates the memory of the late Credit Union League President.
