Annual World of Work Seminars
The Placement and Career Services will host Seminar 7 of its Annual World of Work Seminars on Thursday, November 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre.
Colombian Film Series
The Latin American-Caribbean Centre of the University of the West Indies, in conjunction with the Embassy of Colombia, is pleased to invite you to the next in its Colombian Film Series at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), in the Faculty of Humanities and Education. This month's presentation will be Los Niños Invisibles (Invisible Children). The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. Admission is free.
Faculty Awards Ceremony
The Faculty of Humanities and Education of the UWI Mona Campus will complete its Annual Awards Ceremony which was aborted on November 10 due to a power outage. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. on December 1 in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1).
Members of the University community and the wider public are invited to attend this event.
Foreign Language Assistants Programme in France
The Embassy of France is pleased to inform that the French Government will be allocating some positions to Jamaican English Language Assistants for the next academic year. These positions will be available in Mainland France as well as in the French overseas departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The aim of this programme is to allow Jamaican foreign assistants to master the French language and customs while providing French students with the authenticity of their language and the richness of their culture.
Global Change and Caribbean Vulnerability: Environment, Economy and Society at Risk
The Climate Change Research Group and the Developing Areas Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society/Institute of British Geographers, in conjunction with the Department of Geography and Geology at the UWI Mona Campus, will hold a joint regional meeting on “Global Change and Caribbean Vulnerability: Environment, Economy and Society at Risk?” in late July 2006. The aim of the meeting is to present a multi-disciplinary perspective on Global Change in the Caribbean region by highlighting its impacts on environmental, economic and social systems.
Public Forum on Language Attitudes
The Jamaica Language Unit at the UWI Mona Campus will host a Public Forum on Language Attitudes in Jamaica on Monday, November 21 in the Multi-functional Room of the UWI Main Library, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The forum is entitled "We Jamiekan Piipl Tingk Bout Langwij" and will provide an opportunity for discussing the results of the recent islandwide survey conducted by the Unit.
Public Relations Exposition
The Advanced Public Relations students at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communications (CARIIMAC) will host their second annual Public Relations Exposition on Thursday, November 24 at the Undercroft, UWI Mona Campus, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Public Relations Expo 2005 will be held under the theme ‘Public Relations and You: Giving Back to the Nation’. It will highlight the critical role of public relations in helping organisations to become better corporate citizens.
UWISPEC International Half Marathon
Student athlete at the UWI Mona Campus, Gressian Morgan, finished first among UWI female students and second overall among University students who participated in the second running of the UWISPEC International Half Marathon organized by the Sport & Physical Education Centre at the St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad. Her teammate, Kimberly Rudder was the second University female to complete the race. This was the first time that the Half Marathon was being organized by the St. Augustine Campus.
10th Annual Derek Gordon Seminar
The 10th annual Derek Gordon Seminar will be held on Saturday, November 19, commencing at 9:00 a.m. in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre. The theme of the seminar is “Social Stratification and Exclusion”.
14th Annual Research Conference
The Faculty of Medical Sciences will hold its 14th Annual Research Conference and Workshop on Clinical Trials: Building Capacity and Competence from November 16 – 18.
On November 16 there will be the Opening ceremony and Kenneth Standard Distinguished Lecture at 5:30 p.m. at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre. On November 17 there will be a Presentation of Scientific Papers (orals and posters) from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Main Medical Lecture Theatre and on November 18 a Workshop on Clinical Trials 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Main Medical Lecture Theatre.
