Scholarships Awarded in Master of Science Economics Degree Programme
Two students in the Department of Economics at the UWI Mona Campus have been awarded scholarships based on their first year, full time status in the Master of Science Economics Degree Programme. They are Luke Lyeow, who was named recipient of the G. Arthur Brown Memorial Scholarship and Latoya Richards, recipient of the Thomas De La Rue Scholarship. The scholarships, which are for two years each, took effect in September 2005 and carry emoluments of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars.
Sub-Regional Meeting
The UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America (IESALC) and the Caribbean and The University of the West Indies have organized the Third Sub-regional Meeting regarding Higher Education in the Caribbean to take place at the Mona Visitors Lodge and Conference Centre on November 14 – 15 , 2006. One of the main objectives of the meeting is to present studies carried out on certain priority areas for higher education in the Caribbean, within the framework of the programme observatory of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean implemented by IESALC.
Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence
The Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 3 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Workshop on Assessment Strategies
The Instructional Development Unit will host a workshop, on ‘Assessment Strategies”, on Tuesday, November 1 for members of the academic and senior administrative staff at the UWI Mona Campus. This workshop is designed to expose staff members to innovative and yet effective ways of assessing students in the classroom. The presenter will be former Head of the Department of Educational Studies, Meta Bogle. 2005 Scotia Bank Foundation/Sir Alister McIntyre Scholarship
The 2005 Scotia Bank Foundation/Sir Alister McIntyre Scholarship has been awarded to Dinesh Williams, a full time student in Cohort Eight of the MBA Programme at the Mona School of Business. The award was presented to Mr. Williams at a ceremony held recently in the Executive Lecture Theatre of the School. A second scholarship, the Gordon Draper Memorial Scholarship was presented to another member of Cohort Eight of the MBA Programme, Kareen Henlon.
7th Social History Project One (1) Day Symposium
Persons are invited to submit abstracts and papers for the 7th Social History Project one (1) day Symposium to be hosted by the Social History Project, Department of History and Archaeology, to be held on Saturday March 18, 2006 at the Council Room, Senate Building, UWI Mona commencing at 9:00 a.m. The theme of the symposium is Society, Culture and Politics and is intended to include a wide area of scholarship in history.
Credit Union Launches New Product
The launch of the Credit Union’s new savings product ‘The Gold Note’ and ‘Members Appreciation Day’, have been rescheduled for next Thursday, October 27 at the Sculpture Park, University of Technology, Jamaica between 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon and at the Credit Union’s Parking Lot at UWI, Mona between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The annual Ezra Lewis Memorial Scholarship Ceremony will also be held at the Credit Union’s Parking Lot, UWI, Mona on Thursday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m.

Stephen Vascianne elected President of the Caribbean Conference on Maritime Delimitation
Professor Stephen Vascianne, Head of the Department of Government at the UWI, Mona Campus has been elected President of the Caribbean Conference on Maritime Delimitation for the period 2005 – 2007. The Caribbean Conference on Maritime Delimitation is an inter-governmental group with membership drawn from all countries in the Caribbean and countries that have territories in the Caribbean.
UWI/SPEC International Half Marathon
The UWI St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago will host its first ever UWI/SPEC International Half Marathon on Sunday, November 6 at the Campus. Local, regional and international runners will compete in the 13-mile race, which is hosted by the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre. The Half Marathon is registered with the International Amateur Athletics Federation and will offer prizes amounting to over Twenty Thousand US Dollars. There are special categories for age groups ranging from fifteen to over 70 years, as well as for physically challenged male and female participants.
