Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences Conference
The Seventh Conference of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences will be held on the UWI Mona Campus from May 17–19. The conference will feature research being undertaken by staff and graduate students in the Faculty at Mona, with researchers from the Cave Hill and St Augustine Campuses of the UWI also expected to participate.
Nursing Midwifery Research Conference
“Quality Nursing Care Through Evidence Based Practice“ is the theme of the Annual Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day to be held by the UWI School of Nursing at the Jamaica Conference Centre, Kingston, May 12 and 13.
Dr. Beverly Bonaparte, Professor of Nursing at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York and Fulbright Scholar for the 2004/2005 academic year at the school will deliver the keynote address at the conference. She will also deliver the Mary Jane Seivwright Distinguished Nursing Research Lecture.
Risk and Responsibility for Education-abroad Programmes: The Caribbean Perspective
The UWI’s Office of Administration and Special Initiatives in collaboration with Queen’s University in Ontario will host a seminar entitled ‘Risk and Responsibility for Education-abroad Programmes: The Caribbean Perspective” from June 22- 24. The seminar will be partially funded by the Commonwealth universities study abroad consortium, and will be held at the Mona Campus.
University Singers in Concert
The Registry will stage a benefit performance by the University Singers on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 8.00 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts. Part proceeds of the concert will go towards a refurbishing exercise at the Paediatrics Ward at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

UTC Valedictory Service
The United Theological College of the West Indies will host its Valedictory Service on Wednesday, May 11 at the University Chapel at Mona, beginning at 5.30 p.m. Interested persons are invited to attend.
Workshop on Lead Toxicity and Health
The International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS) in collaboration with The Environmental Foundation of Jamaica will host a workshop on Lead Toxicity and Health on May 17 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Topics to be discussed include Paediatric Lead Exposure: Pathways and Public Health Impacts, Blood Lead Screening of Jamaican Children, Back-yard Lead Smelting in Jamaica and Policies Regarding Battery Sale and Recycling in Jamaica.

Final Political Leadership Forum Presentation
The final presenter in the Political Leadership Forum series hosted by the University of the West Indies, Mona, will be Minister Portia Simpson-Miller, Vice President of the People's National Party. The Forum will be held on Thursday, May 5 in the Senate Building, Undercroft, UWI, Mona from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The Minister will begin with a vision statement followed by a moderated discussion of about 90 minutes in which UWI students, faculty, members of the public and the media will engage in a wide-ranging discussion of the issues. The public is invited.
ACHEA Conference
Innovation an Action for Success in Higher Education is the theme of the fifth annual conference and annual general meeting of the Association of Caribbean Higher Education Administrators (ACHEA) which will take place from July 6-9 at the Tobago Hilton Hotel. The conference will take the form of concurrent sessions concentrated around five sub-themes. These are Information and Communications Technology, Human Resource Development and Change, Financial Management, Fundraising and Accountability; Marketing, Recruitment and Communications and Students: Managing the Student Experience.
Bain to Address Presidential Advisory Council
Director of the Regional Coordinating Unit of the recently established Caribbean Regional HIV/AIDS Training Network (CHART), Professor Brendan Bain, has been invited to give a one hour presentation to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS of the USA. The presentation is scheduled for Monday, May 9 in Washington, D.C.
