Chair in Telecommunications Policy and Management at UWI

The Digicel Foundation has established a Chair in Telecommunications Policy and Management at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus as part of an effort to encourage development and increased tertiary educational opportunities in the region. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 7, at a reception hosted by Principal of the Campus, Professor the Hon. Kenneth Hall, to honour partners of the Mona Campus. Professor Hall said the Digicel sponsorship was the largest donation that the Campus had had for a sponsored chair.

Chilean Film Cycle at UWI

The Latin American-Caribbean Centre in association with the Chilean Embassy invites you to a 5-day cycle of Chilean films, from Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29 in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N 1) in the Faculty of Humanities and Education at 7.30 p.m. each evening.

Credit Union AGM

The 46th Annual General Meeting of the University of the West Indies (Mona) and Community Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. will be held on Thursday, April 21 at the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre, Mona Campus beginning at 2:30 p.m. Registration will commence at 2:00 p.m. All persons registered and seated by 2:30 p.m. will be eligible to participate in the raffle.

Electronic Internal Telephone Directory is now available Online

The Internal Telephone Directory for the Mona Campus is now available online to all. It provides you with up-to-date information as it is recorded in the personnel records in the Peoplesoft application. This instant-update campus directory is available in two forms:
1. As a searchable file on the Internet
2. As an e-book (PDF file) on the Mona Intranet

Launch of Professor Carolyn Cooper's Book

UWI Distinguished Fellow, the Most Hon Edward Seaga, will launch Professor Carolyn Cooper's book, Sound Clash: Jamaican Dancehall Culture at Large on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building. Mr. Cordel Green, Executive Director of the Jamaican Broadcasting Commission, will chair the event which is expected to attract a number of the artists whose work is critiqued in the book. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.

Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts

The Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts’ Resident Theatre Company, the University players, has received the International Theatre Institute’s Actor Boy Award for best drama for 2004. The award was presented recently at the Little Theatre for the University Players’ production of ‘One of Our Sons’ by Trinidadian playwright Godfrey Sealey. Directed by UWI Staff Tutor in Drama, Brian Heap, the production received a total of three nominations including best production, best director as well as best drama.

Political Forums – Jamaica the Way Forward

Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. the Hon. Omar Davies will be the speaker in the next in the series of Political Forums – Jamaica the Way Forward, being organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences. The forum takes place on Thursday, April 21 at the Undercroft of the Senate Building from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The forum will begin with a vision statement by the presenter to be followed by a moderated discussion of about 90 minutes in which UWI Faculty, students and members of the public and the media will engage in a wide ranging discussion of the issues.

Portfolio/Teaching Dossier Workshop

The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) invites members of the academic and senior administrative staff to a Portfolio/Teaching Dossier Workshop. This workshop is designed to assist lecturers in their personal and professional development through reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of their practice as educators, in order to identify which aspects of that practice need to be reinforced and developed. It also provides an assessment tool for persons interested in applying for teaching awards e.g. the UWI/Guardian Life Premium Teaching Award 2006.

Senior Common Room Fundraising Brunch

The Senior Common Room Club (SCR) under the patronage of the Principal of the Mona Campus, Professor, the Honourable Kenneth O. Hall, will be hosting a Jamaican Family Brunch at the Senior Common Room Poolside on Sunday, April 24, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
