Prime Minister of Jamaica to open Fourth Pan Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning
Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, will be guest speaker at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Pan Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning (PCF4), to be held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande, Ocho Rios from October 30 - November 3.
Student Personnel Administration
The UWI School of Education is inviting applications for its innovative Master of Arts in Higher Education: Student Personnel Administration programme. The course will be offered online over a minimum of two years and is designed for practising and aspiring Student Services Personnel Administrators in Community Colleges, Teachers’ Colleges, Universities and other tertiary institutions.
Web Page Design
The Mona Institute of Applied Sciences (MIAS) is currently enrolling students in the Web Page Design and Web Development and Administration courses, which begin in October, 2006.
Both courses are held in the MIAS computer labs on the UWI campus, starting at 6:00 p.m. two days per week for a total of 12 weeks each.

Annual Welcome Service
The Annual Welcome Service for the First Year students of the Mona Campus will be held in the University Chapel on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. The Chaplains will be participating and the University Chorale will be the choir. The Chapel Management Committee invites members of staff to attend.
Faculty of Medical Sciences 15th Annual Research Conference 2006
The Faculty of Medical Sciences will host its 15th Annual Research Conference 2006 from November 15-17, 2006 at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre, University of the West Indies, Mona.
Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the above meeting. Deadline date for receipt of abstracts is: August 25, 2006 (extended). A number of prizes are available to students. Registration is free for students and $500.00 for all others and begins at 8:00a.m.
Fee Payment Deadlines
The UWI Mona Campus advises all students that tuition fees for the first semester of the 2006-2007 academic year become due and payable August 27, 2006. Registration without penalty is allowed up to September 1. Late registration after September 1 is allowed up to September 8, with a late registration fee of $1000 as well as a fine of 1% on the amount of outstanding fees.
Hurricane Tips
We are indeed fortunate that although we are in the middle of the Hurricane Season, to date one has not yet threatened Jamaica. Please do not become complacent. Remember a hurricane can occur at anytime. We all need to be prepared.
Use the time wisely. Here are a few things you could do at this time: continue your preparation process, check on your hurricane supplies, stock up on items you did not get a chance to procure earlier, ensure that all your important document are properly secured, stock up on drinking water and ensure that your First Aid Kit is properly stocked.
Mona Academic Conference 2006 gets underway August 25
The UWI will again host its Mona Academic Conference from August 25-27, under the theme “Writing Life: Reflections of West Indian Writers.” The conference will bring together a significant number of poets, writers of fiction and playwrights who have been part of the UWI community, for readings, discussions and other presentations so that the public may become aware of the volume and range of creative writing by UWI-related writers.
