New Public Orator

Professor Aggrey Brown’s appointment as Public Orator of the Mona Campus has now come to an end. Professor Brown has served in this capacity since 2003.
Professor Brian Meeks of the Department of Government has kindly accepted the Vice Chancellor’s invitation to serve as Public Orator and has been appointed in this capacity for three years, with effect from August 1, 2006.

Online Registration

UWI students are advised that the online registration site is open and they may log on to: http://srs.uwimona.edu.jm:1104. Normal registration will take place from August 28 to September 1, 2006 and late registration will take place from September 4-8 on payment of a late registration fee.

Orientation for New Students

The University of the West Indies, Office of Student Services wishes to advise ALL new students (Full-time and part-time) that Orientation will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2006 at the Rex Nettleford Hall Multi-Purpose Room.
All parents and/or spouses are invited to the orientation session on Wednesday, August 23 at the Interfaculty Lecture Theatre from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pensions Fair

DunnCox in association with Duggan Consulting and the University of Technology, Jamaica will be hosting Jamaica's first Pensions Fair, under the theme: 'Protecting Your Future, Understanding Your Rights' on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
The morning session from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (Registration 7:30 a.m.) is geared towards pension administrators, trustees and human resource personnel in understanding the regulations and the challenges in the practical application of Jamaican Pensions Law.

New students are hereby advised that Registration Packages may be collected from the Admissions Section on dates indicated below:
1. Persons awaiting CAPE/GCE A’Level results who have already received offers from the University - August 15 – August 31, 2006
2. All other Persons who have received offers (including Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences - Preliminary) - August 8 - 31, 2006
Returning Students

September Courses at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts

The Centre will be offering the following Certificate courses this September: Voice & Speech Training 1 & 11, Speech Writing for Dynamic Presentations, Poetry Writing, Short Story Writing, Writing Children's
Story, Basic and Advanced Floral Arrangement.

The Mona Planning Task Force for the Strategic Planning Exercise would like to meet with UWI staff members who sit on the boards of secondary schools or tertiary institutions. The University of the West Indies to host Book Launch

August 1 7, 2006; Kingston, Jamaica: Distinguished Jamaican poet and historian Dr. Afua Cooper will do a reading from her most recent publications: ‘Copper Woman and Other Poems’ and ‘The Hanging of Angélique: The Untold Story of Canadian Slavery and the Burning of Old Montreal,’ on Thursday August 24, 2006, at 6:00p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building, UWI, Mona. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.

UWI Bookshop

The University Bookshop will resume its Saturday operations on August 26, 2006 between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Back to School Medicals!!!

The Health Centre is offering medicals to students of all educational institutions for the period July 1 to August 31. Student categories include GSAT awardees entering High School, returning High School Students, students of Primary and Preparatory Schools, new and returning students of The University of The West Indies, University of Technology, Jamaica, UTC, Teachers’ Training Colleges and others.
Charges are $1,000 (for basic service). Opening Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
