Short Certificate Course In Project Management

The Mona School of Business is pleased to announce the introduction of a short certificate course in Project Management beginning Saturday, September 2, and continues on September 9, 16, 23, 30, and October 7, 2006 from 9:00 a.. – 4:00 p.m. This course is designed for professionals who wish to expand or acquire skills to succeed in today’s competitive business environment.

That Time In Foreign

The Institute of Caribbean Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona, will be hosting a lecture series for semester I of the 2006-2007 academic year billed as “That Time In Foreign - Life Stories of Jamaican ‘England Returnees’. Professor Frederick Hickling launches the series with a talk entitled, “Even De John Crow Dem White” on Friday September 8, 2006 at 5:00p.m. in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona.

Conference on Sexual and Reproduction Health

The University of the West Indies, Advanced Training and Research in Fertility Management Unit Faculty of Medical Sciences will host a conference on “Sexual and Reproductive Health” from October 26-28 at the Knutsford Court Hotel Kingston, Jamaica. Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations. The deadline for receipt of papers is September 1. Registration for Jamaican participants is JA$500.00 and overseas participants US$100.00.

Dr. Tomlin Paul

Dr. Tomlin Paul, Lecturer in the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry, is the recipient of the second UWI/Guardian Life Premium Teaching Award.
Dr. Paul and the other nominees will receive awards at an Awards Ceremony which will be held on Thursday October 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Gold Room of the Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre.

Fee Payment Deadlines

The UWI Mona Campus advises all students that tuition fees for the first semester of the 2006-2007 academic year become due and payable August 27, 2006. Registration without penalty is allowed up to September 1. Late registration after September 1 is allowed up to September 8, with a late registration fee of $1000 as well as a fine of 1% on the amount of outstanding fees.

Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony

The UWI Mona’s Annual Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony for all new students will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 4:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. Students are required to assemble on the lawn facing the Undercroft by 2:15 p.m. for the signing of the Matriculation Register at 2:30 p.m.

Mona GeoInformaticS Training Schedule

Mona GeoInformaticS (MonaGIS) is offering Introductory and Advanced GIS training courses at the Mona Informatix Ltd. facility, UWI. Classes begin Sept 18th, 2006 and end October 26, 2006. Our Introductory Course has been extended and improved with the addition of Introduction to Cartography and an extended 3D Spatial Modeling Module.

MSc. Computer Science

The Mona Institute of Applied Sciences (MIAS) is currently accepting applications for the M.Sc. Computer Science programme, which begins in January 2007.

Online Registration

UWI students are advised that the online registration site is open and they may log on to: http://srs.uwimona.edu.jm:1104. Normal registration will take place from August 28 to September 1, 2006 and late registration will take place from September 4-8 on payment of a late registration fee.

Orientation for New Students

The University of the West Indies, Office of Student Services wishes to advise ALL new students (Full-time and part-time) that Orientation will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2006 at the Rex Nettleford Hall Multi-Purpose Room.
All parents and/or spouses are invited to the orientation session on Wednesday, August 23 at the Interfaculty Lecture Theatre from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
