New Health Providers
As from July 31, 2006 Life of Jamaica will cease to be the health carrier on behalf of the staff of The University of the West Indies. However, the Campus Administration has entered into agreement with Blue Cross of Jamaica to provide health coverage with effect from August 1, 2006.
The new monthly rates, payable by staff, will be as follows: Employee - $305.65, Employee + 1 Dependent - $606.48 and Family - $892.20.
UCSIS Ceremony
The Universities Consortium of Small Island States (UCSIS), and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Office for the Caribbean, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday, August 2 to establish a Cooperation Programme on capacity building for implementation of the 1994 Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (BPOA), and the 2005 Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small island Developing States (SIDS).
UWI, Knox Community College to Sign MOU
The University of the West Indies and Knox Community College will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to enable the College to deliver UWI’s Bachelor of Science (generic) Nursing (BScN) programme in the academic year 2006/2007 on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Office of the Director of the School of Continuing Studies at the UWI, Mona Campus.
2006- 2007 UWI Venture Competition (UWIVC)
The UWI Venture Competition (UWIVC) is the premier business plan competition of the region where teams of MBA and graduate business students present their business ideas to compete for the coveted role of representing the UWI at the Opportunity Funding Corporation Venture Challenge in Atlanta, USA, hosted by Clark Atlanta University. Interested student teams should submit two (2) copies of their business plans to the offices of the Mona School of Business which will provide information regarding the guidelines for the written business plan.
CUPIDE Training
Faculty and administrative staff at five universities participating in the UWI-UNESCO Caribbean Universities Project for Integrated Distance Education (CUPIDE) will benefit from training in incorporating the free, open source learning management software, Moodle, in distance education.
General Stores Stock Taking
The General Stores will be closed for stock taking from Tuesday July 25, to Friday July 28, 2006. No issues will be made during this period. The General Stores will re-open for business on Monday July 31, 2006.

Graduation Photographs

Masters in Student Personnel Administration
Applications are invited for entry in January 2007 from suitable qualified persons who wish to pursue the MA in Higher Education: Student Personnel Administration. The course is designed for practising and aspiring Student Services Personnel Administrators in Community Colleges, Teachers’ Colleges, Universities and other tertiary institutions.
MSB Scholarship Awards 2006
The Mona School of Business has announced the award of the Kenneth Hall Scholarship for 2006 to Miss Simone Forbes as well as the Scotiabank Jamaica Foundation/Sir Alister McIntyre Scholarship to Miss Nicola Green. The awards were presented on Wednesday, July 19 at an awards ceremony held at the School. The Kenneth Hall Scholarship recognises the achievements of the Governor General of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Professor Kenneth Hall who served previously as Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of the UWI, Mona Campus.
