Health Behaviour Survey -UWI Mona

A survey on health-related behaviours of the student population is currently underway on
The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
This project is being conducted as a part of the Wellness Programme of the UWI (through the UWI Health Centre) and seeks to gather data which will inform the development of programmes for student populations.
Students from all faculties have been randomly selected from the list of students registered in the 2006/2007 academic year.

THE UWI AT TORONTO COLLEGE FAIR

The University of the West Indies will be an exhibitor at the GO ABROAD FAIR 2006 to be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17. Exhibition hours on Saturday will be from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"That Time in Foreign" Lecture Series Continues

The Institute of Caribbean Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona, continues its lecture series, “That Time In Foreign - Life Stories of Jamaican ‘England Returnees’. There will be a presentation on by A-dZIKO SIMBA entitled, “Emerging Black From Grey”. This takes place on Friday September 15, 2006 at 5:00p.m. in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona.

Condolences

The University of the West Indies has learnt with deep regret the recent passing of a former colleague, Dr. George Wadinambiaratchi, in Toronto, Canada. The University community extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Wadi in their time of loss.

Deborah-Ann Lee Named 'Rotarian of the year 2005-2006'

Deborah-Ann Lee, Resident Tutor and Head of the School of Continuing Studies and Distance Education for the University of the West Indies, Cayman Island has been named by Rotary Sunrise as 'Rotarian of the Year 2005 -2006' for Cayman. Previously Ms. Lee was an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Medical Sciences UWI, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad, and prior to that the Head of Faculty at the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute. As Director of Vocational Service for Rotary Sunrise Ms.

Foreign Language Courses Offered by UWI Language Lab

The Language Lab will be offering courses in Spanish, French, Japanese and Chinese to all interested participant between September 25 and December 4. Each course costs J$8,000.00 and is payable by September 22.

Graduate Training Workshop

The Jamaican Language Unit (JLU), Department of Language Linguistics and Philosophy invites all postgraduate students to participate in a series of Graduate Training Workshops. These workshops are divided into four stages and are designed to address various issues involved in conducting research and writing. Stage one workshops are designed to assist postgraduate researchers in the planning and design of their research.

Nominations invited for the Caribbean Child Research Conference

Nominations are invited for the “Caribbean Child Research Conference 2006 Award for Excellence in Child Research” to be held from October 25-26. This award is in recognition of an outstanding individual, group or institution who/ which has conducted a substantial body of research among children, (including within the previous 3 years) that has demonstrably benefited children in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Study Skills Workshop

The Counselling Service Unit of the University Health Centre is offering a six part series workshop on Study Skills aimed at improving students’ academic performance and assisting them in better coping with the various pressures of campus life. These sessions take place each Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) in the Faculty of Humanities and Education. The series continues on Thursday, September 21, looking at the topic “Improving your Note Taking Skills.”
