School of Education Postgraduate Students Orientation
New Masters of Education (M.Ed.) and M.Phil/Ph.D. students as well as returning Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) students of the School of Education are invited to an Orientation Session on Wednesday, September 5 at 3 p.m. in the New Education Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona. Option Coordinators will be available to advise students on the course selection process.
UWI Hockey Benefit Play- “Love Games”
The UWI, Mona Hockey club presents the second of its pre tournament events, a benefit play, "Love Games" on Saturday September 8, at 5 pm at the Centre Stage Theatre. Tickets are J$ 1000.00 and can be had from UWI Sports Office. “Love Games” is the 6th Comedy Revue created by prolific Jamaican playwright Patrick Brown, following YARD ’89, YARD ’90, IRIE, YARD 2000, and OLIVER LARGE ABROAD.

Wellness is achieved by practising good habits and eliminating harmful ones. It requires taking positive control of lifestyle choices you can influence. What good wellness habits have you incorporated in your lifestyle? Take a moment to think about them and to congratulate yourself for being consistent in carrying them out. Recommit to doing them regularly.
Call for Papers: 7th Association for Cultural Studies International Crossroads in Cultural Studies Conference
Proposals are invited for papers at the 7th International Crossroads in Cultural Studies Conference, scheduled for July 3-7, 2008 at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Condolences – Nurse Lois Gallant Rowe
The University of the West Indies community has learnt with regret of the passing of Nurse Lois Gallant Rowe, who joined the staff of the UWI Health Centre in November 1997, having previously served as a Nursing Sister at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Initially she worked as a sectional nurse, but then joined the staff full-time. Nurse Rowe was well loved by staff and patients as she was a warm and caring person, dedicated to her work and always ready to go the proverbial “extra mile” for the well being of her patients.
Matriculation Ceremony
The University of the West Indies, Mona will host its annual Matriculation Ceremony for all new students on Thursday, September 6 in the Assembly Hall at 4:00 pm. Students are required to assemble on the lawn facing the Undercroft by 2:15 p.m. for the signing of the Matriculation Register at 2:30 pm.
Mona Academic Conference
“Freedom: Retrospective and Prospective” is the theme for this year’s Mona Academic Conference which takes place from Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2 at the University of the West Indies, Mona. The Conference officially begins with an Opening Ceremony on Friday, August 31 at 6:00 pm at the Undercroft, UWI Mona. The Minister of Education and Youth, Honourable Maxine Henry-Wilson will bring greetings on this occasion. The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Ruth Simmons, Professor of Comparative Literature and African Studies and President of Brown University.
Online Registration and Fee Payment Deadlines
The 2007/8 academic year for the University of the West Indies, Mona officially began on August 26. UWI, Mona wishes to advise that normal registration takes place from August 27 to August 31. Registration without penalty is allowed up to September 1 and late registration will apply from September 3-7 and attract a late fee of J$1000. After September 7, Extraordinary requests for late registration will be allowed with a charge of J$1000 in addition to 1% of the outstanding amount. Students may register online for their courses by logging on to: http://sas.uwimona.edu.jm:9010.
Orientation for New Students
The University of the West Indies, Office of Student Services and Development wishes to advise ALL new students, full-time and part-time, that the Orientation which began on August 25 with a session for Parents and Spouses continues until September 1. Upcoming activities scheduled during the period are a special session for Commuting Students and presentations on topics including: “Understanding Foundation Courses” and “Coping with Stress and Distress”. These activities take place at the Rex Nettleford Hall beginning at 1 pm and 4:30 pm respectively.
Orientation Workshop for New Academic and Senior Administrative Staff
The Orientation Workshop for new academic and senior administrative staff, being hosted by the Instructional Development Unit (IDU), has been rescheduled to August 29-30 between 8:45 am and 1 pm daily. The venue will be announced shortly.
