Rex Nettleford Open House

Rex Nettleford Hall invites all students and staff to its annual Open House Day on Saturday, September 1 starting at 9:00am. The event takes place in the Multipurpose Room, Rex Nettleford Hall, UWI, Mona.
There will be items on sale. Investment and banking services will also be provided. There will be entertainment by Fame FM and in other cultural forms. Staff and students are asked to take their identification cards.

What good wellness habits have you incorporated in your lifestyle? Take a moment to think about them and to congratulate yourself for being consistent in carrying them out. Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony

The University of the West Indies, Mona will host its annual Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony for all new students on Thursday, September 6 in the Assembly Hall at 4:00 pm. Students are required to assemble on the lawn facing the Undercroft by 2:15 p.m. for the signing of the Matriculation Register at 2:30 pm.

Mona Academic Conference

The Mona Academic Conference 2007 takes place from Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2 under the theme “Freedom: Retrospective and Prospective.” The Conference officially begins with an Opening Ceremony on Friday, August 31 at 6:00 pm at the Undercroft, UWI Mona. The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Ruth Simmons, President and Professor of Comparative Literature and of African Studies, Brown University. Honourable Maxine Henry-Wilson, Minister of Education and Youth will bring greetings on this occasion.

New Taxi Policy

The University of the West Indies Mona wishes to advise that in accordance with the Mona Campus Security Act 2002, Finance and General Purposes Committee, Mona has agreed that measures should be implemented to streamline and control taxi service on the Campus, and that as of August 13.

1) Only authorized taxis will be allowed to offer service on the Mona Campus.

2) The only taxi operators authorized to offer service on the Mona Campus are Corporate Area Taxi Association and JUTA Taxis.

Normality Returns to UWI Following the Passage of Hurricane Dean

The University of the West Indies, Mona wishes to further advise that following the passage of Hurricane Dean the Campus has returned to normality since Wednesday, August 22.

Water, electricity and the Campus’ information technology and telecommunications systems including student registration information systems, broadband and dial up services have been restored.

Faculty and all members of staff are required to report for normal work no later than Thursday, August 23.

UWI, Mona to Host 57th General Assembly of the IFMSA

The Jamaica Medical Students' Association (JAMSA) of the University of the West Indies, Mona will host the 57th General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students' Association (IFMSA) from August 3-13, 2008 at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. This was announced during the 5th plenary session of the 56th August General of the IFMSA, hosted at the University of Kent, United Kingdom earlier this month.

‘Electronics Unit: Outreach and Innovation’

Throughout 2007, the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, under the guidance of the Dean, Professor Ronald Young and Sub-Dean, Novelette Saddler McKnight, has engaged in several outreach programmes island-wide to address the issue of developing greater interest, motivation and skill among Jamaica’s secondary-level students in the area of science and technology.

Call For Papers - 9th Annual SALISES Conference

Papers are invited for the 9th Annual Conference of the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) to be held under the theme: “Reinventing the Political Economy Tradition of the Caribbean.” The Conference is in honour of Norman Girvan and is scheduled to take place on March 26–28, 2008. Through the Conference SALISES proposes to take the work of Norman Girvan and his generation of intellectual thinkers as a point of departure for rethinking the political economy of the Caribbean.

Faculty of Social Sciences Closure

The Faculty of Social Sciences will be observing Tuesday, August 21, as Faculty Day 2007. As a result, all the administrative offices in the Faculty will be closed to the public for the day. Normal activities will resume on Wednesday, August 22, 2007.
