School of Education Awards Ceremony

The School of Education, UWI, Mona closes its Education Week activities with an Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 17 at 6 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre. The Ceremony will recognize outstanding graduates from the School of Education who have contributed to the growth and development of education in the Caribbean.

An invitation is extended to the School of Education alumni.

New Opening Hours of Commuting Students Lounge

The new opening hours for the commuting students lounge during the exam period is 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays. The lounge will be closed at the end of the semester on May 21, 2008.

“Facing the Challenges of Nursing through Research”

The UWI School of Nursing, Mona (UWISON) will host its annual Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day on May 29-30 at the Rex Nettleford Hall Multipurpose Room, UWI, Mona Campus. The conference is being held under the theme “Facing the Challenges of Nursing through Research”.

Call for Abstracts – FMS Annual Research Conference

The Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI, Mona will host its 17th Annual Research Conference from November 12-14 at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the Conference. The deadline for submission is Thursday, July 31 and should be sent via e-mail to fmsarc@uwimona.edu.jm and hardcopy provided and addressed to The Conference Secretary, Annual Research Conference Committee.

Archbishop Of York To Be Honoured At Special Convocation At The UWI

The Most Reverend, the Right Honourable Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, is to be conferred with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws at a Special Convocation to be held in the Assembly Hall at the Mona Campus on Saturday, October 6, 2007 beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Condolence-Barbara Preston

The University of the West Indies community is saddened at the passing of Mrs. Barbara Marie Preston, widow of the late AZ Preston who was Vice Chancellor of UWI from 1974 to 1986. Mrs. Preston died on Wednesday, August 29 after a brief illness. The funeral service for Mrs. Preston will take place on Thursday, September 6 at 10 am at the University Chapel.

The University community extends condolences to her children, Caroline Lee, John and Christopher Preston, other relatives and friends.

Election Day Closure

The University of the West Indies, Mona will close at 12:30 pm on Monday, September 3 in order to allow employees the statutory time off to vote in the General Elections.

In order to facilitate students from rural Jamaica who wish to return home to vote, all classes scheduled for September 3 will be cancelled. Teaching for Semester 1 will therefore begin on Tuesday, September 4.

Please note that activities other than teaching will continue in the normal way on September 3 until the general closure of the campus at 12: 30 pm.

Online Registration and Fee Payment Deadlines

Matriculation Ceremony

The University of the West Indies, Mona will host its annual Matriculation Ceremony for all new students on Thursday, September 6 in the Assembly Hall at 4:00 pm. Students are required to assemble on the lawn facing the Undercroft by 2:15 p.m. for the signing of the Matriculation Register at 2:30 pm.

New Telecoms and ICT Masters for UWI

A new Masters of Science degree Programme in Telecommunications Policy and ICT Management, will be offered by the University of the West Indies (UWI) through the Mona School of Business starting in January 2008. Applications for the Masters of Science (M.Sc) in Telecommunications Policy and Technology Management are open and close on September 28, 2007.

Post Graduate Credits From Courses On Ageing

Applications are invited for two online courses, Fundamentals of Ageing and The Clinical aspects of Ageing being offered through the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medical Sciences for September 2007. The courses are led by Professor Eldemire-Shearer.

These online courses on Ageing are designed to attract university graduates of medicine, nursing, social work, sociology and persons with a keen interest in understanding the ageing process. Present students
who are studying at the graduate level may apply and use the credits towards their degree.
