CANQATE 4th Annual Conference

The Caribbean Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) 4th Annual Conference will be hosted by the University Council of Jamaica under the theme “Transforming Tertiary Education to Meet Global Challenges.” This Conference takes place from October 9-11 at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa.

Closing Exercise Fifteenth Regional Course

The Department of Community Health and Psychiatry, UWI, Mona and Action Ageing Jamaica will hold the Closing Exercise of the Fifteenth Regional Course in "Community Care of the Elderly in the Caribbean" on Thursday, June 21. The event takes place at 10:30 am at the MPH Classroom in the Department. The guest speaker will be Derrick Stennett, a motivational speaker.

Commemorative Linguistics Lecture in Honour of Professor Lawrence D. Carrington

The Head of the Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, UWI, Mona, Professor Hubert Devonish, will deliver a commemorative lecture at the Phillip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts on Tuesday, June 26, at 5:30 p.m.

His lecture is titled “ While You Were Away: The Exciting New World of Caribbean Linguistics ” and will be in tribute to retiring Director of the School of Continuing Studies, Pro Vice Chancellor Lawrence D. Carrington, Professor of Creole Linguistics.

CTLPA 10th Annual Conference

The Caribbean Tertiary Level Personnel Association (CTLPA) will host its 10th annual conference from 1June 18-22 at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The conference is being held under the theme "Tertiary Level Education: Sustainability Our Responsibility."

M.Ed. Specialization in Educational Measurement

Beginning January 2008 the School of Education will offer a specialization in Educational Measurement in the current Master of Education Programme. This Masters Degree will be offered online, initially, to I facilitate optimal participation of students from the countries served by the UWI. The programme is expected to be completed within two years. Application is now open for this Programme.

Medical Sciences Annual Research Conference

The Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI, Mona will host its 16th Annual Research Conference from November 14-16 at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre. Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the Conference. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, July 31 by e-mail at fmsarc@uwimona.edu.jm.

Trends and Developments in Caribbean Libraries

The Department of Library and Information Studies in collaboration with the UWI Library, Mona will be mounting a summer workshop for senior Caribbean librarians on Trends and Developments in Caribbean Libraries. This workshop will take place on the Mona Campus from June 25 -29.

William Dennis Lecture

The William Dennis Lecture will take place on Thursday, June 21 at 5:00 pm at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Dr. Peter Figueroa, Chief, Epidemiology and AIDS at the Ministry of Health and Honourary Professor, Department of Medicine, UWI, Mona will deliver the Lecture entitled The HIV Vaccine, Why it is so Important?

“Breast Cancer Awareness Day”

The University Health Centre will be hosting “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” on Thursday, June 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Mobile Mammography Unit of the Jamaica Cancer Society will be providing mammography services as well as educational videos, brochures and an opportunity to discuss your concerns about breast cancer with the medical staff.
