Flagship Electric Vehicle Expo to be hosted at The UWI Mona Campus

On the heels of the Jamaican Government’s announcement of their commitment to, within a decade, see motor vehicles in Jamaica being electrically powered, with energy from the sunshine, the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) has embarked on a mission to prepare the region for this ‘EV-lution’.

To that end, CCREEE will be hosting a Regional Electric Vehicle Expo in partnership with The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, dubbed “Regional EV-lution III” under the theme “Our Transportation Future is Electric” on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at The UWI Mona Campus, Assembly Hall. The Minister of Transport and Mining, the Honourable Audley Shaw, CD, MP will bring opening remarks at the event.

The Flagship event seeks to promote Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption through capacity building, policy engagement and supporting infrastructure for which the primary objective is to increase public knowledge and understanding of Electric Vehicle technologies and their cost benefits, including their potential role in the sustainable energy future for the region. Other key partners include the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Flash Motors, CARICOM Secretariat, CARICOM Energy and Jamaica Public Service (JPS).

What to expect?

The Regional EV-lution III Electric Vehicle Expo will provide an opportunity for targeted stakeholders, as well as the participants from the general public, to interact directly, through test driving and other hands on activities, as well as virtually, through video presentations and animations, with electric vehicle and charging technologies.

The UWI Mona Campus will see its first EV charging station which is sponsored by Flash Motors, being commissioned during the expo.

Participants at the expo will also learn about:

1.       Electric vehicle designs, to include details on engineering and performance trends for electric motors and power electronics;

2.       Charging technologies, to include electricity supply (charging) technologies and interfaces for fast charging;

3.       Battery technology and applications, to include disruptive steps in battery technology development and trends; and

4.       Cost and performance trends, to include improvements in range and other comparative indicators relative to other propulsion technologies.

5.       The plans and strategies in place to support EV adoption across the region

All are invited to attend.
