Parents/Guardians Decision Day

May 14, 2024

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your child/ward has expressed an interest in attending The University of the West Indies, Mona in August 2024. While he/she is busy preparing to ace their final examinations, the Admissions & International Office and Student Billings teams invite you to come in and have a face-to-face dialogue with us. Whether this is your first time having a child/ward attend a university, or you have been through this before, it is always a new adventure.

This is a great opportunity for you to ask more targeted questions on application status, offers received, financial information, housing application, orientation, campus facilities, deadlines and timelines, health services and disability support. We hope the information will provide clarity and help you support your child/ward as they consider the number 1 University in the Caribbean!

If you are interested in meeting with us, the schedule for the three (3) days is as follows:
We know that parents and families are a key part of this college preparation journey as you are their main support system and play a huge part in the decision-making process. The University of the West Indies, Mona is committed to helping parents and families support their child/ward as they transition from high
school students to university students. However, please note that if they are over eighteen (18) years old, they are adults who have the same legal rights as any other adult regarding confidentiality. In particular, they are protected by the Data Protection Act, and so their personal data (which could include the status of their application, confirmation that they are studying here, where they live and how their studies are progressing, etc) should not be disclosed to anyone else without their express consent. Parents have no legal right to information about an applicant/ student, although they would, of course, be contacted as next of kin in the event of an emergency or real concern about the welfare of their son or daughter (e.g. if they are at risk of harm). Your job as a parent/guardian of a future college student is a tough one and we want to help support you in any way we can! So, please let your child/ward complete the attached Consent Form which you will take with you along with their birth certificate or passport (which was uploaded to their application form) and your identification. Let’s start talking about their commencement of studies on August 25, 2024!

If you are unable to attend but have questions you would like us to address, please feel free to reach out via WhatsApp at (876) 890 - 1579 and we will be more than happy to assist you. Please note that the Consent Form must be submitted before any information regarding your child/ward can be shared. We look forward to welcoming you and addressing any concerns you may have as we work together to ensure a successful start to your child/ward's academic journey with us.

Best regards
