The UWI 2023 Graduation Season Officially Begins

The UWI Five Islands Campus Graduation Ceremony

Over 7,500 new ‘UWI Pelicans’ are expected to receive their diplomas as the 2023 graduation season at The University of the West Indies commences on Saturday, October 7. The first ceremony takes place at the regional university’s Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda, marking the newest Campus’ fourth graduating class.

Valedictorian, Ms Kendra Thomas who earned a Bachelor of Education with First Class Honours, will represent The Five Islands Campus Graduating Class of 2023.

Alongside the presentation of graduates, calypsonian Sir Leroy MacLean ‘King Short Shirt’ Emanuel will be conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) degree for his outstanding contributions to Antigua and Barbuda.

Saturday’s graduation is the first of a total of 14 ceremonies across the University’s five campuses, carded for October 7 to November 11. The season marks a double celebration for The UWI—witnessing yet another cohort of students advance to make an impact in the Caribbean society, and the achievement of its 75th anniversary.
