A legal luminary who joined the academe as her vehicle to impart knowledge to shape a generation of scholars and practitioners in the legal profession. Suzanne’s pedigree endeared her to all whom she interacted with within our community. She navigated the legal profession and the academic community with distinction and panache. Her colleagues and students both in the academic and practitioner circles will miss her intellectual acumen as an advocate and a teacher. As she transitions to Valhalla we say walk good our dear, Suzanne. The UWI is in a better place today having benefited from your stellar service to the community”.

“The St. Augustine Campus mourns the loss of our colleague Suzanne Ffolkes-Goldson, Senior Lecturer in Law and Director of the CCGI, Mona. Colleagues at the then unified Faculty of Law, Cave Hill, where Suzanne worked for over 20 years before joining the new Mona Law Faculty, remember her as a much loved lecturer and colleague, dedicated, dynamic and compassionate. She was a well-respected specialist in Corporate and Commercial Law with several important publications in her field and an enduring body of work that contributed to the development of Caribbean jurisprudence. We join our Mona and Cave-Hill Colleagues in expressing our deepest Condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.”

The UWI Mona Community is heartbroken as we mourn the loss of our distinguished colleague, Suzanne Ffolkes-Goldson who transitioned on October 2, 2023. At the time of her passing Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson was a Senior Lecturer and interim Dean in the Faculty of Law.

Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson joined The University of the West Indies, and taught at the Cave Hill Campus between 1989 and 1995 before joining the Mona staff as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law in 1996. During her tenure, she served in various leadership roles in the Faculty for approximately 18 years.

Mrs Ffolkes-Goldson was a Certified Corporate Governance Trainer and also the Director of the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute (CCGI), Mona. Further, she was the course director for the LL.M. course on Corporate Governance, offered at the Faculty of Law. Suzanne's professional career at The UWI extends beyond the Mona Campus. She spent over two decades at the unified Faculty of Law, Cave Hill, where she was a well beloved figure among her peers. She was always willing to lend an empathetic ear and offer guidance to students, faculty and staff when needed. Her journey in academia was marked by dedication and compassion, qualities that endeared her to all her students, colleagues and anyone who happened to be in contact with her.  

In the legal profession, Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson was a luminary. She was an expert in the field of Corporate Law, having taught and published extensively in the areas of Company Law, Corporate Governance and Corporate Management, and her work in Corporate and Commercial Law was renowned throughout the region. Her body of work, both in the academic and practitioner world has left an indelible mark on the development of Caribbean jurisprudence, shaping the legal landscape for generations to come.

As we mourn Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson’s untimely passing, we stand united with her family and circle of friends and associates to remember her as a pillar of strength, kindness and wisdom. May we all find solace in the knowledge that her impact on the world will be celebrated and her memory forever cherished in our hearts.
