The Office of Administration is pleased to announce appointments approved at last month's meeting of the University Council. The appointments, which will become effective from August 1, 2024, are as follows:

Former Prime Minister PJ Patterson, who was intimately involved in the drafting of the Jamaican Constitution will on June 5, 2024, share his firsthand experience and invaluable politico-legal perspective about the Constitution, as calls for constitutional reform reach another fever pitch on the island.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and the University of Botswana (UB) formalised a partnership on Thursday through an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in areas such as research, governance, academic publications, student and staff exchanges, and teaching and learning.

Her Excellency Judith Slater, British High Commissioner to Jamaica, is pleased with groundbreaking Castor Bean research under way at the Mona Institute of Applied Sciences  (MIAS) at The UWI, Mona.

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, through its Institute for Gender & Development Studies (IGDS), Mona Unit, concluded a series of workshops in March aimed at empowering students with the tools and knowledge to combat sexual harassment on the campus. The training, which involved 200 students from various backgrounds, was executed with funding support from the British High Commission in Jamaica.

A rare Jamaican Giant Galliwasp (Celestus occiduus) specimen kept in The Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow in Scotland since the 1800s has finally returned to its homeland. Its return to Jamaica marks the successful joint repatriation operation between The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and the University of Glasgow (UofG). To ensure the safe journey of the specimen, a team of experts from The UWI and the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ) travelled to Scotland from April 18 to 24.

The Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean (DAOC) at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) recently held a virtual panel discussion on the multidimensional crisis in Haiti as part of the University's Vice-Chancellor's Forum series. The forum was streamed live on the UWItv platform and featured high-profile subject matter experts.
