The UWI, Mona and EdgeChem Jamaica Limited Forge Multimillion-dollar Strategic Partnership to Support Campus Infrastructure and Workforce Development

The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus has formalized a strategic partnership with EdgeChem Jamaica Limited through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aimed at strengthening campus infrastructure while advancing workforce development and professional training.

The three-year agreement establishes a collaborative framework under the Mona Infrastructure Restoration Fund (MIRF), a flagship initiative focused on refurbishing and modernizing the campus’ aging physical environment.

The Faculty of Law and the Mona Library have partnered to mount an exhibition honouring Professor Stephen Vasciannie. The display, which runs through April at the Main Library, recognises his career at The UWI spanning from 1994 to his retirement in 2025.

The American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI) will pay tribute to the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, PC, MP, Prime Minister of Jamaica, with the Legacy Award, one of the organisation’s highest honours, at its 29th Annual “The Legacy Continues” Awards Gala on Friday, April 17. The event takes place in New York City.

On Monday April 13 and again on Wednesday April 15, 2026, a group of staff from the UWI Mona Campus gathered at the main entrance to the Campus expressing concerns about salary issues. The Executive Management of the campus decided to engage them, despite having no formal notification of their issues. The Campus Principal, Professor Densil A. Williams who is travelling on university business asked members of the Campus Executive Management team led by Acting Deputy Principal, Professor Marvin Reid to meet with representatives of the protestors to better understand their issues.

Brian Blake, a 17-year-old student-athlete from the Faculty of Social Sciences, has qualified to represent Jamaica at two major regional table tennis events in the Dominican Republic from April 6 to 15, 2026.
