A major step towards regional education reform was recently taken at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), when regional leaders convened to develop a shared framework for the recognition and transfer of micro-credentials across the Caribbean and the wider Commonwealth. The initiative seeks to establish a Commonwealth Credit Transfer Framework for Micro-Credentials.

Guardsman's Group backs UWI heartworm fight

The Guardsman Group is partnering with The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona in its research on Dirofilaria immitis, commonly known as dog heartworm.

The security company on Tuesday, May 7, made a special donation to the University for funding of the research, under the ‘One Health’ theme.

This parasitic nematode, which is transmitted by infected mosquitoes, poses a significant threat not only to dogs but also carries a risk to human health.

According to research data, Jamaica faces a concerning dog heartworm prevalence rate of 18.7 per cent.

In a momentous celebration of his 90th birthday, former Prime Minister PJ Patterson, the Statesman-in-Residence of the PJ Patterson Institute for Africa Caribbean Advocacy, gifted the University of the West Indies (The UWI) a replica of Barrington Watson's renowned 1998 painting, - ‘The Pan-Africanists.’

The mural was unveiled on Saturday, 12th April, at the PJ Patterson Institute, coinciding with a grand birthday celebration for the esteemed Statesman at The UWI's West Road Park.
