Africa & African Diaspora Studies (BA)
Programme Overview
This programme is dedicated to the study of the intellectual, political, artistic, and social experiences of people of African descent throughout Africa and the African Diaspora.
Programme Objectives
The objective of this programme is to get students stimuated by a deeper appreciation of the relevance of the past to the present enabling them to develop informed and creative solutions for challenges of the future.
Admission Requirements
Applicants should have the equivalent of 5 subjects (grades 1-3, including English Language) of which two (2) should be at the advanced level. CAPE (2 units each) at grades 1-5, to be eligible for the full time three (3) year degree programmes.
Programme Structure
Each student will need at least thirty-nine (39) credits in African Diaspora Studies. All Level II majors in African Diaspora Studies must declare a concentration within the programme. All students who are
completing Level I, but are also taking Level II courses must also declare a concentration. Majors
should do 4 courses from the same concentration across Levels II and III.*

*Students who are not exempt from the ELPT and who have not been successful in the test are required to register for FOUN1099; this reduces the number of credits which can be taken in free electives at level 1.
*Students, in selecting electives from the various disciplines in the African Diaspora Studiesprogramme, should take note of pre-requisites from Level I courses in preparation for Level II.

Upon completing this programme, graduates will be able to work in various fields such as:
