Animal Biology (BSc)
Programme Overview
The programme examines the evolutionary origins of the various groups of animals, their structure, physiology, interspecific associations, defence mechanisms, ecology and behaviour. Students pursuing this programme are required to take a minimum of thirty-nine (39) advanced credits.
Programme Objectives
The BSc programme in Animal Biology aims to:
- Introduce the complexities of biological organisation of animals at a variety of levels (from cellular to whole organisms to taxonomic groups).
- Explain the effects of interspecific associations, defence mechanisms, and evolutionary forces on the success of animals.
- Instill an understanding of ethical and welfare issues related to animal biology.
- Develop skills in laboratory and field techniques that are used in the study of animal science.
- Emphasize the communication of zoological information and concepts in an effective manner.
