Finance (BSc.)
Programme Overview
The major in Finance will help students to develop analytical and critical thinking skills essential for success in today’s financial environments. In addition, students develop their communication, interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills.
Programme Objectives
1. To provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to apply appropriate problem solving methodologies to the analysis and solution of financial problems including, inter alia, to conduct financial analysis, to value real and financial assets, to make investment and financing decisions and to analyze and manage risk.
2. To provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to evaluate and make decisions on the allocation of financial resources.
3. To provide students with the skills to explain the role of financial management in the business firm and in the public sector and explain the functioning and operation of financial markets and the roles of financial institutions.
4. To inculcate in students effective communication and presentation skills.
5. To provide students with the skills to evaluate social and ethical issues and dilemmas related to finance.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the minimum requirements for the three (3) year degree programme as stated in (a) and either (b) or (c) or (d) below.
(a) CXC/CSEC or GCE O’Level passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects. Compulsory subject requirements are Mathematics and English Language. Grade requirements for CXC/CSEC are General Proficiency, Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II, or III from June 1998
And at least one of the following:
(b) CAPE or GCE A’Level passes in a minimum of two (2) subjects. CAPE subjects must consist of both Unit 1 and Unit 2
or
(c) An Associate degree, Diploma and/or Certificate from other approved tertiary institutions having attained a B+ average or a minimum GPA of 2.5
or
(d) High School Grade 12 transcript with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum SATI
score of 1700 plus a minimum of two (2) SAT II subjects at a score of 500 or
above or successful completion of Advanced Placement Courses or the International Baccalaureate programme.

Careers after Graduation
Upon graduation from the program, Finance majors are poised for entry-level positions in financial management, commercial and investment banking, investments, insurance, real estate, financial planning, and government service. The program also provides a solid foundation for those students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in finance, economics and business.
