Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
Programme Overview
The Doctor of Pharmacy programme is designed to provide students with the requisite skills and competencies to enable them to provide effective pharmaceutical care.
Programme Objectives
Pharmacists with the PharmD Degree are integral members of health care teams worldwide. The programme aims to train pharmacists prepared to participate in improving the quality of life of consumers through providing professional pharmaceutical care.
Admission Requirements

Applicants who wish to begin the degree programme must fulfil the General University Matriculation Regulations concerning matriculation and
- Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE UNITs 1 & 2)/General Certificate of Education Advanced Level Examinations or their equivalent in Biology/Zoology and Chemistry and a third subject. The third subject can be Physics, Mathematics. The minimum academic standard for entry is an average of two 3’s and one 2 at Unit 2 CAPE or one B and two C’s at GCE Advanced Level , however, highly competitive grades will be given first consideration.
OR
- UWI Preliminary or Introductory Level Courses in the appropriate subjects in the Faculty of Science & Technology , Faculty of Medical Sciences, St. Augustine and programmes/ courses which are considered equivalent at institutions recognised by the University of the West Indies
Programme Structure
The curriculum is designed to be completed in five years on a full-time basis. The pre-clinical (mainly didactic) component can be completed in three years and the fourth and fifth years (clinical component) are devoted mostly to clinical (experiential) education in the form of advanced pharmacy practice experiences.
Careers after Graduation
Graduates of this programme will be able to practice in a variety of settings, including: Community Pharmacy, Hospital/Institutional Pharmacy, Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing, Industrial Pharmacy, Academia, Compounding Pharmacy, Regulatory Affairs, and a myriad of other health care-related settings.
