School Librarianship (B.Ed)
Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Education is a professional degree which is normally intended for practitioners in the field of education. This degree will be awarded to persons who, having satisfactorily completed the programme of study and have satisfied the examiners as set out under one of the following schemes:
Scheme A Two-Year Programme – 66 credits (Trained non-graduate); and
Scheme B Three-Year Programme- 90 credits (Pre-trained non- graduate)
Programme Objectives
The Bachelor of Education programme was designed to prepare educators for national and regional education systems and providing leadership in institutional development and programme quality toeducation systems.
Admission Requirements
- DIPLOMA FROM A TEACHER’S COLLEGE (NO GPA REQUIREMENT)
Requirement that give students selective advantage:
- APPLICANT SHOULD BE WORKING AS A SCHOOL LIBRARIAN
Programme Structure
- University Foundation Courses (FD10A& FD12A or FD13A) 6 credits
- Core Education Courses 9 credits
- Specialization-minimum of 36 credits
- Electives in Education 9 credits
- Study 6 credits
Careers after Graduation
Students who have successfully completed the Bachelor of Education programme are qualified to:
- Teach at all levels of the education system.
- Pursue graduate studies in Educational Psychology, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Curriculum Development, Educational Administration, Educational Measurement, Language Education, Literacy Studies, Mathematics Education, Modern Languages (Spanish Education), Primary Education, Social Studies/Geography Education, Leadership in Technical and Vocational Education and Training and Workforce Development and Teacher Education and Teacher Development and other areas in education.
- Work as Education Officers with the Ministry of Education
- Work as Training Specialists in Corporate Jamaica
- Work as School Administrators
- School Librarian
