Overview: Nurses and midwives are the primary point of contact within health care systems with potential for great health care innovations to improve the quality of care. This can be achieved by providing a platform for developing research and leadership capacity among nurses and midwives, fostering dynamic and sustained engagement of researchers, research users and decision makers in the policy development process and supporting the scale up of innovative programs and practices.
Human rights violation such as poor treatment of pregnant women is increasingly seen as a threat to the 2030 maternal health and gender goals for low and middle-income countries. Disrespect and abuse (D&A) is a component of poor treatment meted out to women during childbirth. The study has identified the prevalence of D&A during childbirth; examined the mothers’ perception of their care during childbirth. The project was funded by the UWI Principal’s New Initiative Fund.
Gender influences on health are undisputed and continue unabated despite global efforts to counter these effects. The current study examines gender effects on disease knowledge and quality of life (QOL) in adolescents with sickle cell disease (SCD) in Jamaica.
