The Greater August Town Film Project is nominated to receive the award for the research project with the greatest developmental impact based on four criteria:

First the project brings a unique and novel approach to responding to the needs of our youth population, and based on the socio-geographic character of the site of the experiment, which is conceived as an ‘at risk’ geographic space, brings hope to participants through its facilitation of new opportunities for self actualization and network building.

Second the project has strong local economic development potential exemplified in its concentration on local resources (inclusive of talent, interest and motivation) which augurs well for ownership of outcomes. The project has made a significant impact on leadership development and talent management as well as transforming the outlook of local residents which are in themselves key developmental values.

Third the focus on youth may be taken as one of the measures of sustainability of project outputs as there is an opportunity for institutionalization of what is learnt during the experimentation phase.

Finally, when all the aforementioned values are taken together the project meets the overarching criterion of being highly relevant to Caribbean issues both in its problem-solving capacity and its potential for new research but as well in its deployment of policy analytic techniques to inform the discourse on innovativeness in local economic development In Jamaica and the Caribbean Region.
