MONALAW RESEARCH DAYS
SIGNATURE LECTURE
TOPIC: From Retributive to Restorative Justice and Practices.
OVERVIEW: Jamaica and the United States both have deeply-rooted cultures that support retributive justice models, which largely focus on incarceration as a major tool for rectifying criminal behavior. Both countries have evaluated and concluded that incarceration, and the stigmatization and the consequences that flow from it, are not effective methods for addressing crime and are consequently instituting large scale changes to their respective systems. This panel will explore some of those changes.
