PRINCIPAL'S AWARDS AND RECEPTION

Bringing the 20th anniversary URD programme to a fitting close, the event, hosted by the Principal and attended by senior Mona officials and Awardees, will recognise outstanding Mona researchers in various categories, selected from across disciplines.

Strengthening Governance in Public Sector Companies: Beyond Petrojam"

Overview: Scandals in public sector companies test faith in public governance and can reverberate in the economy. MonaLaw experts and researchers in economic law, financial crimes and corporate governance, and others, will discuss the way forward to strengthen good governance and acccountability in public sector companies.

Reaping Rewards: Fruitful Investments in Inner-City Youth and their contribution to Nation Building” and "Community Engagement: Developing communities towards the Vision 2030 Agenda

Overview: Participants will gain insight into look at Mona Social Service’s (MSS) contribution to development particularly through the UWI Township Scholarship and Entrepreneurship programmes. UWI Township graduates and high achievers will share their tertiary education journey and how they now contribute to social and economic development. Stakeholders from other tertiary institutions will also present how they engage with communities and the impact they have been making.

"Scamming nah done? The Psychology of Crime and Violence in Western Jamaica."

Overview: The preceding decade has experienced a multiplicity of crime reduction strategies that have seemingly failed to meet targets in western Jamaica. The tourism hub and bourgeoning financial Mecca, the second city continues to be overshadowed by the scourge of crime and violence. The illicit gains of lottery scamming have further complicated efforts of crime reduction and players in the game range from the young to the old, rich to the poor, male and female and the uneducated to the educated.

Overview: Providing a public forum for academic findings on topics of importance to Jamaica

Overview: The Village is an interactive and participatory themed exhibition for visitors to explore and learn more about our research. Special exhibits will also pinpoint contributions made by Mona researchers to Policy development, spotlight upcoming researchers, and unveil emerging studies. Open to the Public, visiting students and campus community.

TED Talks

DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT will be hosting a TEDx (Ted Talk) on Wed Feb 6 as a Signature Event. This will be a massive undertaking led by the students with support from DGOV faculty. It is expected that JTB and/or Sandals will sponsor the event.

Overview: Immediately following the ceremonies, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Dale Webber supported by senior UWI, Mona Officials will escort special invitees on a private tour of the exhibition.
