Short Course
Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services (PHEMS) is the second link in the chain of survival where Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) respond to the health needs of the critically ill and injured to begin basic care. The EMT course is a certificate course designed to support and strengthen this link by training Emergency Medical Technicians to respond effectively and efficiently in emergency situations in the prehospital setting. This includes safely retrieving, caring for and delivering the patient to an appropriate medical facility, in the shortest possible time that is safe. The course is delivered over nine weeks and consists of 230 contact hours and 40hours of clinical rotation. The course curriculum is guided by the US Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum EMT Level, The National Registry of EMT Guidelines and Educational Agenda for the Future.
Qualifications
Participants must have a minimum of 4 CXC including Math and English as well as current BLS certification. Participants without current BLS certification can begin the didactics but must be certified before clinical rotation.
