The paper considers the research work carried out by a sample of graduate students of the School of Education U.W.I., and highlights the potential value of such investigations in terms of the understandings they impart, and the directions for improvement they indicate. Problems related to the dissemination and implementation of the recommendations arising from these understandings are discussed.

The notion of the "Caribbean at the Crossroads and Its Implications for Education" is one that has exercised and excited the minds of policy makers in this region for a long time. 

Suriname with Dutch as its official language became a member of the official English-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in 1995. Suriname and its CARICOM partners are therefore challenged to extend their knowledge of each other to forge the increasingly closer linkages that are neccessary.
