Monitoring Committee

The food establishments and service vision for the Mona Campus is to offer a viable and desirable food program which provides consistent high quality and variety of healthy meals and snacks at competitive prices, at a high service standard and in safe and sanitary eating environments.

The UWI endeavours to ensure that students and staff have access to food service providers that:

  • Provide healthy and nutritious options;
  • Support The UWI’s mandate of health and wellness;
  • Encourage the development and maintenance of healthy eating;
  • Increase the provision for the special dietary needs of persons with existing health conditions.

The Policy shall be monitored by the Food Establishments and Services Monitoring Committee. This committee shall comprise the following persons:

  • Chairman; Senior Assistant Registrar with Responsibility for Occupational Health and Safety or nominee
  • Director, Business Development Office
  • Director, Office of Student Services & Development
  • Director, Office of Security
  • President, Guild of Students or nominee
  • Estate Manager/Superintendent of Works, Sanitation and Grounds
  • Safety and Emergency Management Consultant

The Food Establishments and Service Policy was created to govern the operations of Food Establishments on the Mona Campus and the relationships with these establishments and The UWI.

The Public Health Act (1985), The Public Health (Food Handling) Regulations (1998) and all other statutory regulations and standards that govern Food Establishments in Jamaica will be used to guide the monitoring of Food Establishments on the Mona Campus. This policy shall also be in keeping with other policies of The University of the West Indies. Please see below all relevant policies:
