Postgraduate diploma programme in Adolescent Health and Advocacy

The University of the West Indies, Mona through the department of Child & Adolescent Health started a Post Graduate Diploma in Adolescent Health & Advocacy in August 2019. The programme is designed to improve the capacity of health and other allied service providers to understand and address the unique needs of adolescents across the Caribbean region. The programme is open to health practitioners, social workers, educators, policy makers, legal and correctional providers and other persons with a vested interest in the well- being of adolescents.

Clinical Fellowship in Neonatology

Neonatology is a subspecialty of paediatrics that involves the care of the newborn infant — especially ill and premature newborn infant. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as: breathing disorders, infections and birth defects; coordinate care and medically manage newborns born prematurely, critically ill or in need of surgery. Neonatologists are involved in the stabilization of neonates in life threatening conditions.

DM Paediatrics

The Department of Child and Adolescent Health offers a full-time post-graduate degree leading to the award of a Doctor of Medicine in Paediatrics. The Programme aims at providing exit qualifications for graduates to practice independently at the level of Consultant Paediatrician. The DM (Paeds) programme has graduated over 100 Paediatricians since inception with many of these graduates remaining in the region, caring for children and adolescents of the many Caribbean islands. Other graduates are employed in the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.
