Prof. Russell Pierre Photo Russell B. Pierre is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of the West Indies and Consultant Pediatrician in the Department of Child and Adolescent Health, University Hospital of the West Indies, Jamaica.

He has been integrally involved in research, treatment and care in Paediatric, Adolescent and Perinatal HIV medicine for the past twenty years. As consultant and collaborator with the Kingston Pediatric & Perinatal HIV/AIDS Program, Jamaica he has participated in National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) funded observational cohort studies in pediatric and perinatal HIV; and an Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation funded Pediatric and Perinatal Leadership Initiative for comprehensive scale-up of prevention of mother-to-child transmission, pediatric HIV care, antiretroviral treatment, training and mentorship in Jamaica.

Prof. Pierre’s primary research interests center on pediatric and perinatal HIV/AIDS and include research on the epidemiology of pediatric HIV/AIDS in Jamaica, outcomes-based research on impact of interventions for treatment and care of infected children and adolescents, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission. His current focus is characterizing transition of adolescents from paediatric to adult care settings.

He is recipient of the Principal’s Best Publication Award (2001), and co-recipient of Research Award for the Most Outstanding Research Activity (2006, 2009) and

Research Award for the Project Attracting Most Research Funds (2010, 2012, 2013). In 2006 he completed fellowships in International HIV/AIDS Training at National Institute of Health, USA, and Strategic Leadership & Management at Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population & Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.
