The Effect of Epidural Levobupivacaine and Fentanyl on Stress Response and Pain Management in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

Synopsis:

The aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of two different methods of anesthesia on endocrine and metabolic responses of patients undergoing PNL (Percutaneus nephrolitotomy). Combined epidural analgesia, added to general anesthesia, may be a comfortable anaesthesia method in PNL with suppression of intraoperative and postoperative stress response and less pain scores in the early postoperative period.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The perioperative stress response of patients who were planned to have percutaneous nephrolithotomy under epidural anesthaesia with opioids and local anesthetics has not been investigated in detail. Our hypothesis is that the stress response following percutaneous nephrolithotomy can be lessened by epidural analgesia.
