Serum Magnesium and High Sensitive C - Reactive Protein in Hypertensive Obese Female School Learners

This study highlights the increased cardiovascular risks in overweight/obese female school learners in an understudied region of South Africa. There were higher proportion of pre-hypertension, hypertension and low-grade inflammation in overweight/obese participants in comparison with their lean participants.


Objective: To examined the relationship of serum magnesium and high sensitive C-reactive proteins (hsCRP) with overweight/obesity and its association with hypertension in lean versus overweight/obese female adolescent school learners living in Mthatha, South Africa.
