Documentation of Lipomas in the Oral Cavity of Two Institutes in Turkey

Synopsis: 
Intraoral lipoma is a very rare, benign, mesenchymal tumour which represents only 1–4% of all head and neck lipomas. Herein, we present eight cases of intraoral lipomas, emphasizing the rarity of this lesion in the oral cavity.

ABSTRACT

Objective: About 20% of lipomas are seen in the head and neck region among which oral lipomas constitute only 1-4%.Our aim was to investigate oral lipomas from two institutes in Turkey.

Study design: Pathology material including reports and slides between 2007 and 2014 were retrieved.

Lipoma is a benign, slow-growing neoplasm of the adipose tissue. It is one of the most common mesenchymal tumour in the body. However, its occurrence intraorally is rare.
