Sonoelastographic Assessment of the Gender-related Changes of Achilles the Tendon

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2016.501
Pages:
628-32
Synopsis:
In this study, the effect of gender on the Achilles tendon’s elastic property is not a significant covariable in the young, healthy sample. Muscle strength may play a more important role in the Achilles tendon’s injury rather than in tendon’s elasticity.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess the gender-related differences in the elasticity and thickness of the Achilles tendon among healthy young participants.

Methods: A total of 48 volunteers, who were healthy adults between the ages of 20 and 25 years, were included in this study. The metabolic equivalent (MET) scores, tendon thickness and shear wave velocities (SWVs) were compared between the males and females.

Does Nasal Septal Deviation Have an Influence on Distribution Patterns of the Frontal Ethmoidal Cells?

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2016.076
Synopsis:
The effect of nasal septal deviation on the presence of the frontal ethmoidal cells have not been studied before. Our study suggests that the presence and distribution of frontal ethmoidal cells are not influenced by nasal septal deviation.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the role of nasal septal deviation on the presence or distribution patterns of the frontal ethmoidal cells (types I to IV), the pneumatization patterns of the frontal sinus, and to search the association between the frontal ethmoidal cells and the pneumatization degree of the frontal sinus and the presence of concha bullosa.
