Ms. Stacey-Ann Burrell, a devoted mother and Information Technology teacher at a school in Clarendon, pours her heart into nurturing young minds each day. Her passion for teaching is evident as she speaks of the transformative journey her students undergo under her guidance, leaving her classroom with a wealth of knowledge. Ms. Burrell, an alumna of the Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Post Graduate Diploma, reflecting her deep-seated love for Mathematics and Computer Science.
Despite initial challenges, such as not having access to a computer during her studies, Ms. Burrell's determination led her to a fulfilling career in teaching. While she initially sought employment in programming in Kingston, fate led her back to Clarendon, where she discovered her calling as an Information Technology educator. Her impact on her students' lives is evident in the appreciation she receives from former pupils, who acknowledge the positive influence she had on them.
Ms. Burrell's passion for Mathematics extends beyond the classroom and into her home, where she shares her love for the subject with her daughter, Arielle Smith. Arielle, a motivated Grade 6 student at Mineral Heights Primary School, has proven herself as a formidable competitor in Mathematics. She participated and excelled in the Jamaican Mathematical Olympiad (JMO) 2024, earning a remarkable 3rd place among Grade 6 students across Jamaica. Arielle also participated in the School’s Challenge Quiz competition.
The bond between Ms. Burrell and Arielle strengthened through their shared dedication to preparing for competitions, spending quality time after school and on weekends honing their Math skills.
