Visit of HRH Prince Michael of Kent to UWI Mona

His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent will visit UWI Mona campus on April 16th as part of his royal tour of Jamaica, Monday 15th April-Friday 19th April, 2013. He will visit the Geo Informatics Institute which has been in the forefront of road safety initiatives in Jamaica through mapping of accident 'hot spots'. The Prince will also tour the UWI Mona Campus.
HRH Prince Michael of Kent is visiting Jamaica in the capacity of Patron for The Commission for Global Road Safety and on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Road Safety Council.

The Confucius Institute welcomes the renowned Classical Chinese Painter and Calligrapher, Professor Du Juemin for the months of March, April and May. Professor Du's residency covers lectures and demonstrations, calligraphy lessons, painting exhibitions, classical chinese poetry analysis and films (the film makers' craft).

Professor Du holds a PhD from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Classical Chinese Painting.he is also Professor at the Inner Mongolia University. Download Flyer.

Blood Collection Drive

The University of the West Indies in partnership with the National Blood Transfusion Service is hosting its first blood collection drive for the year on March 12 & 13, from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Who can donate:
 

  • Healthy people aged 17 – 60 years
  • Have eaten a meal at least 3 hours before
  • Have not had a piercing or tattoo for a year
  • Have a body weight of at least 110 lbs

Come out in your numbers. Let us do our part in keeping the supply of blood adequate and safe.

Homecoming Celebrations-Caribbean Day

The UWI Mona’s Homecoming & Commemoration Celebrations provide an opportunity to celebrate the founding of the University, to acknowledge its unique position as the only higher education institution with a presence throughout the English speaking Caribbean, while assisting to engender a greater sense of belonging and develop a feeling of camaraderie among staff, students and alumni.
 
  Friday, February 15 is Caribbean Day. Highlighting the day’s events will be booths and displays depicting life in the Caribbean countries which contribute to the University.  Visitors will also have the opportunity to taste food from the different countries and experience different aspects of Caribbean culture during the lunch hour concert.

The Department of Physics at The UWI, Mona will host the Mona leg of its annual CAPE Physics Workshop on January 7-11, 2013 at the Mona Campus. The daily Workshops are designed to address specific topics covered on the CAPE Physics syllabi namely: Oscillation and Waves (Unit 1) and Operational Amplifiers (Unit 2). Approximately 1000 students are expected to be exposed to the theoretical underpinnings of Physics through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, simulations and experimentation during the Workshops conducted by a team of UWI faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students.  Each session starts at 9 am daily.
