Distinguished Lecture - Sir Dennis Byron, President of CCJ

A conference in honour of Professor Rupert Lewis
The conference will be held under the theme "Black Radical Thought, Pedagogy and Praxis: A Conference in Honour of Professor Rupert Lewis". A Launch (by invitation only), takes place on Thursday October 10.
Rupert Lewis has spent a lifetime dedicated to teaching and activism meant to affirm people of African descent in the Caribbean and globally. His work on Marcus Garvey and Walter Rodney has been critical to the search for knowledge and understanding in the realities of African Diaspora peoples. He has also been involved in giving practical expression to Pan African ideals through efforts to build institutions of scholarship in Africa and its Diaspora and through activism. Rupert Lewis has also been a thinker and activist of the Left.

29th Annual Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture
This year's lecture entitled "Was Freedom Portable?: Wartime journeys from Saint Domnique to Jamaica to Cuba to Louisiana" will be delivered by Professor Rebecca J Scott; Charles Gibson, distinguished Professor of History and Professor of Law, University of Michigan, USA. This lecture will focus on the phenomenon of illegal enslavement in the aftermath of the Haitian revolution.

Distinguished Lecture - Professor Richard Blackett
The Distinguished Lecture is presented in association with the Office of the Board of Undergraduate Studies.
Professor Richard Blackett is the Andrew Jackson Professor of History at the Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, USA. His lecture, entitled "The Southern Axis of the Atlantic Abolitionist Movement" will look at American fugitive cases in Jamaica and elsewhere in the Caribbean and their impact on relations between Washington and London.

The Philip Sherlock Lecture for 2013 will be delivered by Dr. Kei Miller, at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, Mona on Monday February 25 at 6p.m.

The Mona Law Series: "Recent Corporate Governance Developments in the Commonwealth Caribbean"
The seminar will be led by Dr. Derrick McKoy, Dean and Mrs. Suzanne Ffolkes-Goldson, Deputy Dean and will form part of the Campus Research Day Activities.
Dr. McKoy will present on “Blowing in the wind: Whistleblower legislation and the anticorruption project in the Commonwealth Caribbean.” This paper will discuss the introduction of whistleblower legislation in Jamaica in light of the international trend towards greater transparency in public management as part of the general anticorruption project. The paper will comment on the trend towards transparency in public management in the Commonwealth Caribbean and focus on the Jamaica Protected Disclosures Act.

Confucius Institute Anniversary Lecture - Tai Chi Master & Contemporary Philosopher: Al Chung Liang Huang
The Confucius Institute will have as guest Lecturer this year, Tai Chi Master and Contemporary Philosopher, Al Chung Liang Huang. He is the founder-president of the Living Tao Foundation and the international Lan Ting Institute in the sacred Wu Yi Mountains of China, and on the Oregon Coast, USA.
