Seminar on Copyright & Royalties for Literary Works

The Institute of Caribbean Studies/Reggae Studies Unit at the UWI, Mona and Jamaican Copyright Licensing Agency (JamCopy) will host a Seminar on “Copyright & Royalties for Literary Works”. The seminar is slated for Thursday, January 31, 2012 at 2 pm at the New Education Lecture Theatre (NELT), The UWI, Mona. Joan Pinkney and Troy Folkes of JamCopy will present on this occasion. 
 
The seminar will explore the role and function of JamCopy, the reason for a JAMCOPY licensing, JAMCOPY’s international reach, membership and the benefits of being a member of JamCopy. 
 
Creators and aspiring creators of intellectual property in the form of literary works (e.g. books, articles) are especially invited.

Seminar: UWI’s Role in the Caribbean’s Archiving

The UWI, Mona will host a seminar on the archival development in the Caribbean region with emphasis on the role of the University of the West Indies. The event is set for Tuesday January 22, 2012 at 4 pm at the University Archives, UWI Regional Headquarters Building, Mona.
 
Professor Emeritus Sir Roy Augier will be recognized on this occasion for his contribution to archival development over the past half century. Presentations will be made by Sharon Alexander-Gooding, Senior Assistant Registrar, (Archives & Records), Cave Hill, UWI and Stanley Griffin, Assistant Archivist, University Archives, UWI.

The Department of Government, UWI, Mona will host its monthly Graduate Seminar on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2:30 pm at Seminar Room 4 (SR4), UWI, Mona. On this occasion, Dr. Clinton Hutton and Dr. Omar Hawthorne lecturers in the Department will make presentations.  Hutton’s presentation entitled, “The Epistemology and Values of the Haitian Revolution and the Making of the Modern World” examines the ideology and foundation of the Haitian Revolution. Hawthorne’s presentation entitled, Do International Corruption Matrix Matter? will explore the impact of Transparency Index (TI) and Corruption Perception Index (CPI) and whether or not they matter.

Social Media Seminar

Final year students from Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at The UWI, Mona will on Thursday, November 29 stage ‘CLICK: Sign in to Cash in’, a social media seminar aimed at exposing students to entrepreneurial opportunities in the virtual world.
 
The seminar, organised by the Public Relations Class 2013, will be held inside the CARIMAC Annex Lecture Room, The UWI, Mona from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The execution seminar is part of the students’ final assessment grade which provides the students with an opportunity to put into practice the theoretic lessons learnt.

Ambassador Lorne McDonnough, the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) will deliver the main address on this occasion.
