Advancements in Medicine Conference
“Advancements in Medicine 2007: A US and Caribbean Perspective” is the theme for the first Annual Medical Conference of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. The Conference is being held in collaboration with Mayo Clinic of Minnesota, The University of Minnesota, Ministry of Health and Organization for Strategic Development in Jamaica (part of the Jamaica Diaspora), from February 15-17 at the Breezes Hotel, Runaway Bay, St. Ann. The event opens with a Ceremony on February 15 at 3:00 pm at the hotel.
Applications for Mona Research Fellowships and New Initiative Grants
The Office of Planning and Institutional Research (Office of the Principal) is currently accepting applications for Mona Campus Research Fellowships, New Initiative Grants and Special New Initiative Grants for the current academic year. The deadline for the applications is March 9.

Attica’s Block Week
Attica-Block D, Taylor Hall hosts its Block Week from Sunday, February 11 to February 18. The week commences with a Church Service on the Lawns of Attica, Taylor Hall. There will be several other activities during the course of the week including: Movie Night and Vibes, Fish Feed-Food Sale, a public forum, Culture Concert and Bowl Down-Spine Cricket Games.

Career Awareness Month
Placement and Career Services, the Office of Student Services and Development, hosts its annual Career Awareness in February under the theme “Career Development for Sustainability in the Global Workplace. Activities taking place over the period and extending to March include: Mock Interviews for final year UWI students and the Annual Career exposition.
The second session of the annual Mock Interview Programme is being held for final year students on Thursday, February 15.
CARIMAC Launches Inaugural Cricket Coverage Workshop
The more than 1.2 billion pairs of eyes and ears that will be on the Caribbean for World Cup Cricket 2007 will require regional reporters to go beyond the boundary to capture the sights and sounds of the game. The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) of the University of the West Indies will help reporters do this through its “Covering Cricket” workshop. This first-of-its-kind workshop will run for three days, starting Thursday, February 22, and will deliver instruction and advice on reporting the sport.
Centre for Caribbean Thought Lecture
The Centre for Caribbean Thought, UWI, Mona presents a lecture by Dr. Maurice St. Pierre on “The Political Independence Movement in Trinidad and Tobago and the Political Thought of Eric Williams” on Tuesday, February 20 at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona.

Children and Violence in Schools Forum
Caribbean Child Development Centre (CCDC) will be hosting an electronic forum on Children and Violence in Schools, commencing Monday, February 12 and runs for two weeks. There will also be an electronic link to the Forum at the following website, http://www.uwi.edu/ccdc
Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week 2007
The annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week at the Mona Campus take place over the period February 15-23 under the theme “A Celebration of Excellence.” The honouree for this year is Eminent Historian, Dean, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Roy Augier. The celebrations commemorate the founding of the University and are part of efforts by the Campus to engender a greater sense of belonging, develop a feeling of camaraderie among staff, students and graduates as well as to highlight the regional nature of the University.
Commuting Stress Research
The Department of Community Health and Psychiatry is conducting research on Commuting Stress and Well being of drivers employed in Kingston. UWI employees who drive from Old Harbour to Mandeville daily are invited to take part. Participants will receive free passes to Highway 2000.

Intimate Relationships Series
The final session in the annual Intimate Relationships series for both students and staff takes place this Thursday, February 15 at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), Faculty of Humanities and Education at 2:00 pm. This week’s topic is “Keys to Keeping a Relationship Working Well.” The Counselling Service, University of the West Indies, presents these sessions.
