Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week 2007
The annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week at the Mona Campus take place over the period February 15-23 under the theme “A Celebration of Excellence.” The celebrations commemorate the founding of the University and are part of efforts by the Campus to engender a greater sense of belonging, develop a feeling of camaraderie among staff, students and graduates as well as to highlight the regional nature of the University.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Gives Lecture at UWI, Mona
Rt. Honourable Don McKinnon, the Commonwealth Secretary-General will give a lecture entitled “Small Islands, Big Spirits- the Caribbean in the Commonwealth” at the Phillip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) on Thursday, February 8 at 6:00 pm. His lecture is a part of the UWI Distinguished Lecture Series 2000 and Beyond, organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
Rt. Honourable Don McKinnon is a New Zealander who has an extensive and distinguished career in international politics and diplomacy having served for 21 years in New Zealand politics.
Governor General Delivers Inaugural Dennis Irvine Lecture
The University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) will be staging the Inaugural Dennis Irvine Lecture on Friday, February 9 at 5:30 pm at the Undercroft. The lecture will be delivered by the Governor-General of Jamaica, His Excellency the Honourable Professor Kenneth Hall.
Intimate Relationships Series
The Counselling Service, University of the West Indies presents its annual Intimate Relationships series for both students and staff. The series take place each Thursday as of January 25 until February 15 at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), Faculty of Humanities and Education between 2:00 pm and 4:00 p.m.
Library and Information Studies Presentation
The Department of Library and Information Studies hosts a presentation on the Strategic Directions for the National Library of Jamaica on Friday, February 9 at 4 pm in the Multifunctional Room. The presenter will be Winsome Hudson, Executive Director of the National Library of Jamaica.

Luz Longsworth Appointed Deputy Director of the School of Continuing Studies
Professor Lawrence Carrington, Director of the School of Continuing Studies (SCS) announced the appointment of Mrs. Luz Longsworth to the position of Deputy Director of the SCS, as of January 1, 2007. Mrs. Longsworth has been seconded to this position for one year from her substantive position as the Resident Tutor and Head of the University Centre in Belize. She has taken up her new responsibilities since January 8.
Name Change - Office of Student Services
Finance and General Purposes Committee, (F&GPC) Mona has approved the name change of the Department - Office of Student Services (OSS) to the Office of Student Services and Development.
The decision was taken at the regular monthly meeting of the Committee, held on Wednesday October 25, 2006.
OAS Secretary General Makes presentation at UWI, Mona Campus
His Excellency José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) will make a presentation on Tuesday, February 6 at 2.00 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona.
The Secretary General’s brief presentation will focus on Latin America and the Caribbean: Year in Review: Opportunities and Challenges and address issues such as scholarship programmes. A question and answer session will be facilitated afterwards.

The UWI, Mona/University of Costa Rica Exchange Programme - 2006/2007
The UWI Mona through the Office of Student Services and Development will host the 6th annual exchange visit of the University of Costa Rica staff and students from February 6 -17. The exchange is a part of the UWI Quality Leadership Programme and the contingent comprises ten (10) students and two (2) members of staff.
