International Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day
The UWI School of Nursing, Mona in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the School will present an International Nursing Midwifery Conference and Mary J. Seivwright Day, June 1-3 at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Hotel in Ocho Rios. The theme for the conference is “Changing Visions to Reality through Nursing Research 1966 - 2006”.
The Conference aims to expose nurses, midwives and nursing students to current research findings that will assist them to apply evidence to clinical practice that can improve patient care.
Jamaica History Society
The Jamaica History Society will present a talk “Regulating the Movement of Jamaica’s Cultural Property” on Tuesday, June 20. The presenter is Ms. Andrea Richards of the Institute of Jamaica, Kingston, and the talk will be held at St. Andrew Parish Library at 6:00 p.m.
Merrit Henry Receives ITLPA Award
The International Tertiary Level Personnel Association (ITLPA) has presented its Outstanding State and International Division Award to Merrit Henry, Student Services Manager, Placement and Career Services in the Office of Student Services, Mona. The Award was presented by the Association at its annual Convention held in Indianapolis, USA, recently. This award recognizes outstanding contributions at the State and International Division Levels including involvement in conferences, organization of workshops and other professional efforts. Mrs.

WIGUT AGM
The academic and senior administrative staff at the Mona Campus, of the University of the West Indies have been challenged to put improvement of their conditions of employment high on the agenda. The challenge has come from newly elected President of WIGUT, the West Indies Group of University Teachers, Dr Derrick Deslandes. Addressing the union’s membership at the annual general meeting this week, Dr Deslandes noted that a union is only as strong as its membership.
3rd Caribbean Conference on Dispute Resolution
The Dispute Resolution Foundation (DRF) and the Mona School of Business (MSB) are hosting the 3rd Caribbean Conference on Dispute Resolution from May 24 to 27, at the Half Moon Hotel, Montego Bay. The theme of the conference is “Matching the Process to the Problem: Dispute Resolution option for the Caribbean.
47th Annual General Meeting
The 47th Annual General Meeting of the University of the West Indies (Mona) and Community Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. will be held Wednesday, May 17 at the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre, UWI Mona commencing at 2:30 p.m. Registration will commence at 2:00 p.m. To facilitate the meeting, the offices at UWI Mona and UTech will be open between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Normal business hours will resume on Thursday, May 18.
Application for Full-time Degree Programme
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to pursue the full-time degree programme in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health (OESH) offered by The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus commencing August 2006.
The programme is designed to provide advanced education and training in diverse areas of occupational and environmental safety and health and to develop a cadre of highly competent practitioners of OESH. The programme is of three years duration.
CUSA Games
The UWI, Mona, University of Technology and GC Foster College will be hosting the Caribbean University Sports Association (CUSA) Games from May 18-22. Five overseas universities will also be participating along with the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. The events to be contested are Track & Field, Volleyball, Basketball and Lawn Tennis for males and females. The Opening Ceremony for the games will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 4:00 p.m. The UWI, Mona athletes welcome your support in their quest to defend the Champion Trophy of the competition.
Champions for Life Summer Camp
Education Abroad Programme
The International Programmes Unit of the Office of Administration and the Cultural Studies Unit, Mona Campus have collaborated with Earlham College, Indiana, on the design of a customized education abroad programme being offered in Jamaica from May 8 to 31. The group of six students, led by Professor Deborah McNish and Professor Trayce Peterkin, will focus on Rastafari and Jamaican culture. They will participate in academic interactive sessions with Dr. Jalani Niaah, at Mona Campus, cultural immersion field visits and historical and recreational trips around the island.
