Caribbean Conference on Information Systems
The Departments of Management Studies and Mathematics & Computer Science at The University of the West Indies, who jointly administer the PhD programme in Information Systems (IS) are hosting The Caribbean Conference on Information Systems (CCIS), an international conference on IS Research, June 1 to 4 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge & Conference Centre.
Caribbean Migration: Forced and Free Conference
The University of the West Indies Migration Study Group will host a conference on “Caribbean Migration: Forced and Free” at the UWI, Mona Campus on June 13 and 14 with an Opening Session on the evening of June 12. This conference will immediately precede a conference on the Diaspora being organized by Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in association with the UWI (June 15-16). It is anticipated that the linkages between the themes of the two conferences will enrich both.
International Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day
The UWI School of Nursing, Mona in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the School will present an International Nursing
Midwifery Conference and Mary J. Seivwright Day, June 1-3 at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Hotel in Ocho Rios. The theme for the conference is “Changing Visions to Reality through Nursing Research 1966 - 2006”.
The Conference aims to expose nurses, midwives and nursing students to current research findings that will assist them to apply evidence to clinical practice that can improve patient care.
Message from the Principal
As you may be aware, the University is about to begin the process of
preparing a strategic plan for the 2007-2012 period. This will be the
University's third strategic plan and it will be developed against the
background of significant changes in the competitive environment facing
the University. It is the intention of the University management to
involve all members of the university community, and key stakeholders,
in the process of developing this plan that will seek to chart our path
over the next five years.
Philanthropy Journal Launched at Caribbean Conference
The Gift: the Journal for Caribbean Philanthropy, the first regional publication dedicated to providing detailed documentation, case studies and analysis of philanthropy in all its dimensions was launched at the recently concluded Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy.
5th Annual Caribbean Reasonings Conference
The Centre for Caribbean Thought, UWI Mona in association with the African Studies Department of Brown University will host its 5th annual Caribbean Reasonings Conference entitled “Politics, Activism and History: The Life and Times of Richard Hart” from Thursday, June 8 to Saturday, June 10 at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre (SSLT), UWI Mona. Champions for Life Summer Camp
The UWI, Sports Department will be staging ‘Champions for Life 2006’ a Summer Camp with a difference for children between the ages of 8-16 years under the theme “Building Bridges of Hope and Champions for Life” at the UWI, Mona Bowl from July 10-21. It will seek to teach life skills through sports and build bridges between various groups. The camp will include presentations from motivational speakers and sports personalities along with sporting instructions by National Coaches. Basketball, Track and Field, Netball, Football, Volleyball and Swimming will be offered.
Graduate Research Clinic
The Graduate Research Clinic for Graduate Researchers at all stages of qualitative and quantitative research will be held from June 1 – June 27 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. This four-week intensive course is designed to address various issues involved in conducting research and writing, including: Time Management, Planning your research, Writing the thesis, Writing for Publication, Preparing for the Viva and Enhancing Presentation Skills. The sessions will be interactive and learner-centred.
