Special Lecture on Economics of Defense in Developing Countries
The Mona School of Business in collaboration with the Department of Management Studies cordially invites you to attend a very special lecture on “Economics of Defense in Developing Countries” on Monday May 28, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. The presenter is Professor Ron Matthew of The Royal Military College of Sciences and Granfield University. This lecture will be held in the Executive Lecture Theatre, Alister McIntyre Building, Mona School of Business, UWI. Members of the public and the campus community are invited to attend.
Workshop on Social Impact Assessment
The Centre for Population, Community and Social Change in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, UWI, Mona, presents a five-day workshop on Social Impact Assessment. The workshop will be held Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30. The target population includes: social and environment, urban, tourism and development planners; community development workers, agricultural extension officers, health workers, students and teachers of development. CARIMAC Annual Summer Programme
The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication, CARIMAC, UWI, Mona will host its annual Summer Programme from May 31 to August 31, 2004 in Kingston and Montego Bay. Courses are being offered in a wide variety of communication techniques including multimedia, journalism, radio, television, print, public relations, graphic design and desktop publishing. In general, courses are designed for media and communication practitioners. Some courses, however, are pitched at a level to benefit keenly interested and capable persons who have no previous media and communication experience.
CTLPA Conference
The Caribbean Tertiary Level Personnel Association (CTLPA) will host its annual conference from June 23 to 25, 2004 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Montego Bay. The theme of conference is ''Helping Students Succeed'' and the main presenter will be the President of the American College Personnel Association, Jeanie Steffans. The Conference is targeted at personnel in tertiary level institutions who work in areas of Student Services, Student Affairs, as well as administrators and customer service personnel in faculties bursaries, registries and other support services.
Jamaica Success Seminar
Jamaica Success presents a seminar entitled Surviving the Corporate Jungle - What They Never Taught You in School on Saturday, June 19 2004 at the Jamaica Conference Centre. Topics include: Interview & Negotiation Skills; Grooming & Deportment; Legal Rights at the Workplace and Money Management Skills. Presenters will include Leo Williams - Managing Director, JMMB Securities; Laura Butler – In Vision Training Consultants; Roger Thompson - Brand Manager Lager, Red Stripe and Romae Gordon - Asst. General Manager, PULSE. The Cost is $500 (early registration) or $1000 (normal registration).

MONATS Elects New Executive
At its Annual General Meeting held on Thursday May 13, 2004, the Mona Administrative and Technical Staff Association (MONATS), formerly MONASA, elected a new Executive body to serve for a period of one year. The announcement of the results for the position of President was prefaced by thunderous applause and shouts of jubilation from the members who anticipated the return of Mr. Patrick Thwaites for a third consecutive term. The re-elected Officers were Vice-President, Mrs. Miriam Lindo; Treasurer, Mr. Alexander Brown; Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Sandra Powell-Mangaroo; and Trustee, Mrs.
Mustard Seed Communities Benefit Concert
The Arts Page will present an evening of wine, cheese and the University Singers in a benefit performance for the Mustard Seed Communities on Saturday May 29 at 7:30 in the evening. The occasion will also be used to launch the “Dare to Care, Adopt a Child Programme” being undertaken by Mustard Seed Communities. Dare to Care is a home for abandoned children who are infected with HIV/AIDS. The home is designed to care for twenty children abandoned by parents who are themselves infected with HIV/AIDS and who are not able to care for their children.
Panoridim Steel Orchestra - University Singers in Concert
The Panoridim Steel Orchestra, UWI Mona presents the University Singers in concert on 6 June, 2004, at 7: 30 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI Mona. Tickets are $500 and proceeds are in aid of sending Panoridim to the World Steel Band Competition in Trinidad in October 2004.
