Inter-Collegiate Basketball Finals
Members of the UWI Mona campus community are invited to support the female Inter-Collegiate Basketball Finals this evening, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. The UWI will play G.C. Foster College at the Mona Bowl. Come out and support your basketball team as they battle for female dominance!!! Shuttle bus for the bowl leaves the BNS parking lot at 6:45 p.m. SHARP!!! School of Continuing Studies Associate Degree Programmes
The UWI School of Continuing Studies is inviting applications for admission to its associate degree programmes for the 2004-2005 academic year. The programmes are the Associate of Science in Administrative Professional Office Management (APOM); the Associate of Science in Business Management (BM); and the Associate of Science in Public Sector Management (PSM). Persons wishing to enter any of these programmes must hold passes in at least 5 CXC (General Proficiency) subjects at Grades 1, 2 as well as Grade 3 after 1998) including English Language.
University of the West Indies Press Wins Book Industry of Ja. Awards
Congratulations to the University of the West Indies Press which received several awards at the Book Industry Association of Jamaica’s Biennial Awards Dinner held on Saturday, May 1 in Kingston. Central Africa in the Caribbean: Transcending Time, Transforming Culture by Maureen Warner-Lewis, received the award for the Best Academic Book published between July 1, 2002 and December 30, 2003. Three Press employees, Nadine Buckland, Shivaun Hearne and Richard Smith also received Long-Service Awards from the Association.
Electricity Suspension
The electricity supply on the UWI Mona Campus will be suspended on Sunday, May 16, 2004 between the hours of 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. The entire campus will be affected by this outage. This is necessary because the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited will be working on the system to remove the present feed from Shed Lane to the Aqueduct. The JPSCo has promised that the campus will have a more reliable electricity supply from this feed.
International Conference on the Caribbean Court of Justice
The School for Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) University of the West Indies will host an International Conference on the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) between Thursday, May 6 and Saturday, May 8 on the Mona Campus. The conference will bring together persons from a variety of disciplines and interests including law and jurisprudence, government, private sector and academia.

The Centre for Caribbean Thought Conference “Caribbean Reasonings”
The Centre for Caribbean Thought at The University of the West Indies, Mona will host the third annual conference in the series “Caribbean Reasonings” at the UWI, Mona from June 17 to 19, 2004. The conference is titled: Culture, Politics, Race and Diaspora: The Thought of Stuart Hall.
Tribute to Professor Maureen Warner-Lewis
The Department of Literatures in English will pay tribute to Professor Maureen Warner–Lewis, Professor of African-Caribbean Language and Orator 1970-2003, on the occasion of her retirement from the University of the West Indies on Wednesday, May 5 at 7.00 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts,UWI.

Central America/Caribbean Visiting Fulbright Researcher Program
Applications are now being invited for the Central America/Caribbean Visiting Fulbright Researcher Program. This program is designed for scholars and professionals from Central America and the Caribbean to conduct research in the Unites States between May 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005. Applicants must NOT have an alien registration card (i.e. a "green card"). Applicants should have a minimum of a master's degree and three years of University teaching experience or five years of professional experience. The application forms are available from the deans of the faculties.
