Electricity Outage – Faculty of Social Sciences
The Maintenance Services Department, Electrical Section has said that the electricity supply at the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Norman Manley Law School will be suspended for three hours, 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, May 1, 2004. The Department regrets the inconvenience that may be caused by the disruption in electricity supply.
“Praisesong for Maureen"
The Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona, will host "Praisesong for Maureen", a farewell tribute to Professor of African-Caribbean Language and Orature, Maureen Warner-Lewis, on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts.
Credit Union AGM
The 45th Annual General Meeting of the University of the West Indies (Mona) and Community Co-operative Credit Union Limited, will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Inter Faculty Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona, commencing at 1:30 p.m. Registration will commence at 1: 00 p.m. and the first 100 persons will be eligible to participate in a raffle. There will also be three (3) Gate Prizes.
JADOL Public Lecture this Thursday
The Jamaica Association of Distance and Open Learning (JADOL) will host another in a series of public lectures this Thursday, April 29 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The venue will be the UWI Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC) conference room on the Mona campus. The speaker will be distance librarian at the UWI, Ms. Evadnie McLean and she will examine Library Support for Distance Learners through Electronic Services. The series of lectures are designed to provide a forum for the discussion of the latest trends, developments and innovations in open and distance education.
2005-2007 Fulbright/LASPAU Faculty Development Program
The Office of Public Affairs at the US Embassy is inviting applications for the 2005-2007 Fulbright/LASPAU (Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities) Faculty Development Program. The scholarships are open to full-time lecturers at tertiary level institutions in Jamaica who want to undertake Master's or Doctoral level study at U.S. universities beginning in August of next year.
2nd Caribbean Conference on Dispute Resolution
The Mona School of Business University of the West Indies and the Dispute Resolution Foundation will
host the 2nd Caribbean Conference on Dispute Resolution from May 12 to 14, 2004 at the Jamaica Conference Centre. The theme of the conference is “Riding the Tides of Troubled Times: 21st Century Techniques for reducing the cost of Conflicts and Disputes”.
Call for Papers
The University of the West Indies’ HIV/AIDS Response Programme (UWIHARP) will present its 2nd Annual Scientific and Business Conference from June 11-13. The Conference theme will be HIV/AIDS: Research Partnerships for Action. The venue is the Knutsford Court Hotel, Ruthven Road.

Friday Forum
The Caribbean Child Development Centre, School of Continuing Studies, UWI in association with the Children’s Issues Coalition will host this month’s Friday Forum on Child Development and Parenting on Friday, April 30 at 12:30 p.m. at the School of Continuing Studies Conference Room, (across from Health Centre), UWI, Mona Campus. The presenter will be Ms. Grace Munroe, Doctoral Candidate, Planning Institute of Jamaica and her topic will be Community Participation in Education Reform: A Jamaican Experience.
